Master Cast Apollo Pops Up From Joek Minis For Odyssey
July 8, 2015 by brennon
JoeK Minis are waiting on the full range of Apollo miniatures to land in their lap but for now they have added some of the Master Casts onto the Webstore. There are only five of these available and at the time of writing there were only three left so they might be gone already. However, they do give you a good clue as to how epic he's going to be...
Stand Beside A God
Apollo is a fantastic looking miniature with so much going on. I love the segmented armour and the scale like cloak that gives way to proper robes.
He is also armed with a bow fixed onto his gauntlet which he uses in defense. You can see below that he also stands head and shoulders above most of the other models in the range and even crests the top of the mighty Hephaestus.
A fantastic looking miniature and even if you couldn't get your hands on the master copy you can still dive in and pick up the finished product on the webstore soon.
How would you paint yours up?

That looks really impressive.
It’s a nice sculpt but the paint job is a bit busy and I can’t really see his shape. If the scales on the cloak were maybe painted green it would help it stand out and be a little more distinct from his body. Likewise with the armoured segments coming over his shoulder.
Also, this seems to be based on Greek mythology and I’m pretty sure Apollo was the god of the sun and music, this chap looks like he just crawled out of the ocean.
Apollo is god of lots of things, though the association with the sun is a relatively late one. In Homer he’s a plague-sending bad ass with a bow.
Very true, but I still can’t help but think that this mini would have made a much better Poseidon. I know games and back stories are free to take liberties with source material, and there’s no mention of being true to the mythology on the JoeK website, but I’m looking at the Hephaestus mini and he’s definitely got a “God of the Forge” vibe going on.
I take it he’s an alien now form the look of the others they all had some sci-fi encounters.
The Hephaestus miniature is amazing, but everything since hasn’t grabbed my attention, nor the money from my wallet.
All I will say is whilst there are token gestures to Greek mythology – names, weapons and other bits and bobs I guess – they’re not really supposed to be anything like them. They’re really just a way I can have a bit of fun with designs and stuff. These gods were not created from any human mind, for sure.
Well, that’s not quite true – I did have a hand in them I suppose – but you know what I mean. Eventually, things will become a little clearer I think…but I need to make more things first 🙂
