Lay Down Covering Fire With Infinity’s PanOceania Aquila Guard
April 17, 2015 by brennon
It's time for another preview for the world of Infinity where we check out what Angel Giraldez has been working on! It turns out he's picked up a very big gun as we look at the Aquila Guard with HMG for PanOceania...
Another great looking paint job from Studio Giraldez and while I also like the pose of the model it might have been nicer to see him in a more battlefield ready pose. He has the 'cool' factor going on, as if he's walking away from an explosion, but he doesn't look very prepared for battle.
I would have liked to have seen him bracing himself and firing that HMG with his cloak flying off behind him as he does. I have this vision of it in an 'anime' style and it looks very cool indeed.
Would you prefer a different pose?

I like some different poses on the table, nice to have someone other than a female, eye-candy, model* in this “weapon up” pose (although I’m sure someone will point out other male minis in this kind of pose…)
* e.g. Pan-O fusilier, Mercs Anaconda pilot, Aleph Chandra spec-ops, Ariadna Metro, etc.
Heavy Infantry, CC&BS 15, ARM 4, BTS 6, Wounds 2… L3 visor… 62 points…
Damn – I wasn’t going to get any more PanO!
There are aspects about this model I really like, little details like how the cloak raps around one leg at the bottom; however, he does seem a bit….clunky?
The cloak, from these pictures anyway, looks like rather (too?) thick.
Looks cool. Add to the collection. Bring more on.
Wow… another great mini. Not sure why someone in an environment suit would need a cloak, though. What practical purpose could it have? And of course, it could get into all kinds of things.
Looks like it is a sleeveless trenchcoat over the armor. I could imagine it would be used to keep sand/debris/dust out of the electronics or whatnot.
Then again, it’s open, so yeah. It’s just there for the ‘coolness factor’.
There is that “coolness factor,” to be sure, but I’m not buying the dust/debris hypothesis. Almost everything designed for military use is “ruggedized” i.e. designed to be dropped in the mud and kicked on to the objective and still function (with notable exceptions, like the nylon mags Canadian C7’s came with). A combat armour/environment suit, purpose designed for the military, should be able to handle all kinds of dust and rain, and goopy combinations of the two, as well as provide a room-temperature, dry, breathable interior. I’ve come to expect cloaks on 40k-iddies models, but not on Infinity ones. While… Read more »
I’m just trying to rationalize an unrationalizable thing. I personally think it is silly that it has clasps on the front, but they are open. It would have looked alright being closed.
I would love to hear their explanation behind the design, though.
It looks cool? The aesthetic of Infinity is very anime, so a person in armour with a trench coat is within that theme? To help differentiate the Aquila guards’ aethetic vs the other heavy armor troops in the Panoceania range? I.e. if it didn’t have the coat, you could easily confuse it for a Swiss guard, or an Orc troop (nothing wrong with the Aquila guard having its own silhouette). To the best of my knowledge, there isn’t an in-game logical reason as to why armoured troops have coats, but if you start pulling on that string, then you probably… Read more »
That looks impressive as can be expected from CB.
I really like the pose! I’m sure it could be easily modded as well (firing a gun that big with one had like a badass).
I see him more as a leader standing behind and surveying his main line.
I really like the figure for the most part, I just don’t see the purpose of that Cloak. He/She is in a suit of futuristic armor, I’m sure there’s better ways of getting warm.
Data Sphere posted the character design on their Facebook page. The cloak a lot more relevant here. I wonder what went wrong when translating it to the mini?

Not a fan of this one. His shoulder pads are a little bulky for Infinity IMHO.
So no one thinks the coat could just act as a little camouflage? Seems a logical way to stop yourself standing out in the woods to me.
I thought the same thing at first, then I remember this universe has optical camouflage that essentially renders you invisible. But I suppose that could get expensive on many units.
In the future I’m sure they will have camouflage paint for combat armour.
Its a militarty uniform. does it have to make sense? if the cloak is wrong so is the colour 😉
I kind like the mini. Not sure it will replace my old one though.
To many minis, not enough time…
amazing
Cool enough to get it again despite liking the old one to bits. But not any time soon.
Not my ‘army’, but another stunner! The boy wants one.D.x
