Community Spotlight: Fantasy Footballers, Infinity’s ALEPH & Romans In The Snow
March 3, 2017 by crew
We're focusing back in on some awesomeness from the Hobby & Painting Forum as we check out three projects which caught our eye and we thought deserved a Golden Button! We've got a mix of Fantasy, Sci-Fi and History this week.
Come and check out some of the community's hard work and remember to drop your own hobby into the forums too, start your own threads!
Blood Bowl Bath Blitzers by redyeti
redyeti is joining many other people and diving into the world of Fantasy Football. His Blood Bowl team of choice are the Humans and he wanted to try and replicate the look of the kit worn by Bath Rugby...
...so he went about trying to get a handle on how to do those stripes! We don't envy him his choice as it can be quite a task but as you'll see in the next few photos his work-in-progress so far is looking promising.
He started off with making sure they had a good coating of Stirland Mud on the base as a texture to work on later, but then moved on to painting the kit and the player's skin.
We think that the project is looking fantastic so far and the stripes are really working well across the whole model. We will be following this to see how the team finishes up but right now we're totally loving it! Since the Six Nations is happening right now too here over in the UK it's good to see rugby teams inspiring work on the tabletop (BoW Ben - Come on England!)
ALEPH (Infinity) by rekky
rekky from the community has been posting over in the big Infinity thread in the forums and showed off the results of his work on some ALEPH characters. Firstly we have the Agema Sniper here...
...followed by some work on Teucer too. One thing that immediately strikes me about these models and rekky's scheme is the clean look. They look polished and very High Sci-Fi which is great for the cybernetically enhanced ALEPH.
White is tough to get right at any time but we think that rekky has pulled it off here. The spot colour of the purple really does serve to bring out the details of the model and he's done exceptionally work on the edges of the armour to make them stand out and give a sense of shading too.
Some superb models which really show off ALEPH at their best.
Romans In The Snow by volleyfireandy
Closing things out for this week we have some sterling work by volleyfireandy who has painted up some of Footsore Miniatures' Late Romans with a snowy theme which fits nicely with their time in Britain.
The models have great character about them and they've come together nicely as a force which looks like it's been through the wars. It's nice seeing this clash of the older Roman designs with the new and the gritty bases really serve as a nice contrast to the bright red shields and helmet plumes.
You can see one of the models, the regiments Standard Bearer, standing proudly here on his own. The bases were done using a mix of forest ground cover from Warlord Games and then Valhallan Blizzard by Games Workshop. We think it's worked very nicely indeed.
With Aetius & Arthur drawing a lot of people into this period of history it's good to see some of the community getting involved too. We'll be watching volleyfireandy to see how big his warband gets in the future! Kudos for taking the images in a little 'set' too as it really brought them to life!

Cracking work everybody. It’s been a pleasure watching @rekky‘s ALEPH miniatures take shape. For anyone interested he also did a few tutorials in February’s Infinity thread:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/infinity/forum/topic/infinity-monthly-painting-group-february-2017/?topic_page=1&num=15
Have a look at pages 2 and 4.
It’s very pleasing to see I’ve been spotlighted for a second time! I’m glad people like my work!
As @seldon9 says I’ve done some step by steps for my Aleph, but more importantly if you are interested in infinity head over and join our monthly infinity related chats in the infinity sub-forum! This includes painting and just general infinity talk!
nice work & great paintwork everyone.
The Rugby lads look like the Geelong Cats =D
Andy Singleton’s Romans look really..cool!! Loving the bases and the cold faces 😎

@rekky has already heard me gush about him before so I will just say I will stand on those previous comments. So I will say it is more than well deserved 😀 @redyeti I remember when I commented on it and my first thought was where was the likes there was none at the time next time I looked at plus six and I knew you were going to make it here 😀 It was more than well deserved man. @volleyfireandy the Romans are the some of the few historicals I really love looking at and because of this model… Read more »

@caladors Thanks again! If it weren’t for you, noone would have seen my post 😉
I will try to update on my team soon but I am working/battling a cold AND just got Zelda on the Switch. It’s a tough life!
Ha ha ha I doubt it 😀
Well done
and tough indeed
Keep up the good work!
nice work across the board.
a special mention to @rekky, watching that man work over on the infinity thread has been inspirational and his tutorials have been spot on. super clean and awesome colour palette, well done mate.
Some really lovely work here.
Am definitely going to be checking out Footsore miniatures, can’t believe how much character those grizzled old Roman veterans have in their faces!
As always, the community spotlight is stunning. For me though the standout is the bases on those Romans – absolutely brilliant.
I am loving the romans great job.
These were fantastic when i first saw them and it is still the case now. Congratulations to all your talent inspires
Wow thank you everyone! I’d best paint some Romans more up now…
I’m absolutely in love with those shields! Even more so than the great basing =D
How dare @brennon use this forum to espouse his hateful garbage on the topic of rugby! This forum is supposed to be kept clean of that kind of pathetic pandering to such an unholy alliance of roses. Remember “if it’s not Scottish it’s crap” no truer words have been spoken by a Canadian and remembered by and American. 😉
The Bath kits look amazing and I would like to see what he does with something like the Quinns!
