Carlos Llauger from Corvus Belli is here to walk us through the concept artwork for each character in the new JSA faction.
The new characters are:
- Keisotsu Butai
- Kempeitai
- Kuroshi rider
- Oniwaban
- HVT Kuge Delegates
- Ryuken Unit-9
- Daiyokai Dengekitai
- Kaizoku Spec-Ops
As well as character design we see weapon loadouts and how the story has evolved the availability of certain types of gear.

I started a year ago with Infinity and picked the JSA and therefore im really looking forward to lay my hands on the allready preordered new JSA-box.
Sadly one of the few missing modells of the JSA-Range is the O-Yoroi Kidobutai. Maybe you can help me here 😉

Oniwaban is the best
I like the Kaizoku Spec Ops best, probably the Daiyokai second. But there is no bad one there.
I prefer a white scheem on the Riuken girl chest, you know, looks like an armour.
Thankfully the miniature comes un painted so i can do it miself.
Yeah, I think I’ll do the same.
Minis otherwise look stunning!
I understand that but there is not to it than meets the eye… ha, ha! ^^
You realize she’s an hommage to The Major from Ghost in the Shell whose body is all the way artificial as are quite some at least partially in Infinity (thus their cubes)? And her most iconic scene was assaulting spies by dropping from a building ‘naked’ so her ‘skin’ going super cameleon made her completely invisible. This showing skin issue is clearly a nod towards that.
…and the troop profile does indeed have ODD.

I was just looking at her and thinking a red headed Kusanagi. These little nods to other great works are really awesome. They even nailed the visor, now if only the JSA smg looked like the ones from the series that would even more cool.

Are the Keisotsu hommages to persons or fictional characters as well? At the very least the female one seems so “real”.
They are literally the special team from Ghost in the Shell. The keisotsus, the Ryuken and the Kempeitai are all very inspired from them.
The red hair Ryuken is Motoko from the second volume instead of the dark hair of the original manga.
The concept designs are really amazing!

Love what Carlos had to say about the Dengekitai and its ceremonial touches being a “risk.” It is true that it would never need horns and flags, but it really adds to the visual appeal and makes it a very unique model!
You are right. But nobody “needs” ornamental things. Not even the ‘original’ samurai and daimyos of old. Although they had their uses beyond mere decoration.
The “risk” in this case is, that avoiding clicheed elements like these is a distinct design feature in Infinity, and thus in adding this they break with a key element of their visual (and content) design. It’s the same with all the ‘hats’. It was a cool optional fun piece with the Shikami but now it’s all over the place and it is too comical for Infinity’s slick, cunning and hard near cyber future atmosphere. It’s jist quite silly in a neon high technisised world. Especially on an almost-TAG HI…

The designs are brilliant. I must say I agree with Carlos completely my favourite bits of any of the models are the horns and flags on the daiyokai. The horns are from Japanese mythology belonging to demons and the flags are the back banners of the samurai and so for me it is a really strong link with the theme.
This scratches my Japanese itch so badly it hurts and it feels good.
I want a full force from ‘Unit 9’. That would make me so happy.
Just awesome, it’s gonna be really hard to top that daiyokai HI for me, though CB seems to continue to surprise me.
When you guys get the box, you’ll see the hidden surprise on the briefcase.

no question about it the ruyken unit 9 are my favorites from this box cant wait to get my hands on them. I was surprised pano is supporting the rebellion not the nomads, after all sticking it to the man is what the nomads do, and no faction is more willing to fight for cash and freedom more than the nomads.
The Nomad Nations don’t have the same kind of massive military manufacturing complex that PanO has.
But I’m sure that there is a Yu Jing bank account or two that may have mysteriously decided to “donate” all their funds to the JSA cause. 😀 There are plenty of ways that the Nomads can be helping that are not as noticeable on the tabletop as a shiny new gun. 😉
However nice theese are, I am still pretty upset, that they killed Asuka, the Haramaki and Raiden just like that. That are nine figures, I can not use anymore. Together with Ko Dali that makes ten.
That are roughly 100 € of very nice but unplayable miniatures.
Fluff might be nice, but this is a great move to alienate ones customer base
Interesting… PanOceanian Shock Marksman Rifle implies we’ll see SMRs in PanOceania eventually too.

It’s hard to pick any one miniature out as better than the others – there’s such a consistent style and appeal that runs through the whole range. The VIP character though is stunning.

Yu Jing burns… and something in my heart tells me that kitten is behind it all.
I love all these new models and redesigns, but i think i like the huge samuria is the most interesting (daiyokai). However im sad to see the kiesotsu lost thier multisniper option :(, but it is what it is. Awsome job Corvus Belli

I was really hoping to see the design for the multi Marksman rifle. Overall very excited to be getting these units next month.
Daiyokai Dengekitai And the new Oniwaban are the standouts for me.

I hope CB starts to tone done some of the “inspiration” miniatures. Some of these are getting too common and too on the nose.

There’s a lot of factions that seem to like Red / White / Black. Not that I’m complaining because I like those colours even though they are known to be difficult, but I’d be surprised if Tunguska isn’t one of the new factions released this year, again another faction with similar colours.

Don’t suppose I was the only one who keeps hitting the pause button to look at the design art. I just can’t listen and admire at the same time
I was doing that for the sectorial AVA lists and the stat lines. 🙂
Talking about the more subtle color palette for the HVT made me realize how much I really like how the distinction between the Yu Jing aesthetic and the JSA aesthetic is clearly different, but still maintains those anime inspirations that Infinity has always been built on.
Love these design videos, I can see the reasoning for the new paint scheme for the oniwaban but I really liked the green. Only paint though, I can do whatever I want there, the actual new sculpt looks fantastic. New HI/mini TAG looks a bit stationary but he’s pretty chunky so on the table he’ll probably look great.

so many cool minis, its hard to pick my favorite one out of the new JSA. The pose for the Oniwaban is amazing, but the delegate is really cool to and the cat really sells it!

Love the designs, but would love them even more if they lessen the sexism like a lot.
The female in heels is a bad think on it self, but some details I cannot be happy with, like the Oyoroi pilot or “Not-Motoko” absurd cleavege.

The best part of these concepts wasn’t even the art, but the presence of PanO weaponry to show the foreign sponsorship of the rebellion. Thats the sort of detail that shows the depth of Infinity’s setting even as they’re loading down with anime references ^_^..

I like the Tanko, but I’m going to miss the Haramaki. Sad to hear about them dying, I hope their sacrifice was a noble death.

Daiyokai Dengekitai and Spec-ops are my favorites. Spec-ops because of his pose and Daiyokai Dengekitai because his here to show that Japanes is proud and strong.

Anyone feel like they should’ve gone a tiny bit further with the PanO weapons? Maybe engineer something that would run off YuJing ammunition(more of a shared ammo/magazine design to reduce the issue of running out of supplies mid-battle)
Life would be so much simpler if foreign people spoke proper English like what we English people do… not like we have any regional accents or anything…
I agree with Justin this is great to see all the new artwork and I am amazed how they turn the concept art into those amazing figures. Exciting times for anyone playing the Japanese, getting a complete revamp on the army, nice….

Infinity has the coolest motorcycles.
I agree with Carlos, my favorite is the Daiyokai. I have always thought the samurai back banners really add something to the look of a samurai warrior and it carries over to this Infinity figure also.

I’m guessing the kuroshi rider is sculptured to look like the Japanese fox spirit kitsune hence the red head and letting with the awesome Japanese theme.

I’m just getting into more of these minis wargames and this looks so cool!
The Daiyokai Dengekitai is my favourite of the concepts and models, I think those extra elements like the flags help tie the set to be unquestionably Japanese.
Concept art is great, infinity conversions is not something I have yet got into but seeing tj3 art and hearing bits of background helps guide and motivate me to start.
