Antenocitis Workshop’s Forward Base Kickstarter Going Well!
November 24, 2014 by brennon
Antenocitis Workshop had previewed this over the last month or so and last week the Kickstarter took off for the very impressive Forward Base designed for Infinity. Now they've bust their original goal to pieces and have powered on to over a whopping £65,000!
The Forward Base is meant to represent a themed battlefield, not just a random scattering of whatever you have in the gaming den. There's nothing better than having a nice coherent board to play on, especially for something like Infinity where the narrative is the driving force behind a lot of your games.
The fictional production company behind these buildings, designed to be used on distant worlds filled with alien life, is Phoenix Industries. However you won't just see all those logos spread over everything as they have designed a whole host of subsidiary companies under the Phoenix flag that will adorn your buildings and other pieces of terrain to tell a real story of who and what is coming to these planets.
But enough of that, the pledges are what you want to see right?
Each of the various pledge levels starts you off on your story. If you're just looking for a small base then you can go for something like 'Home Alone' although if you fancy adding a bit more terrain and habitable accommodation and workspace to the table you can take it even further...
If you're really looking to settle down then these pledge levels might be more up your alley. It not only comes with a selection of habitation areas but also things like a Power Generator/Helipad alongside things like great big garage too. One of the big things is the way in which you'll not only be able to play outside this terrain but inside it with plenty of lovely looking interiors as well as exteriors.
As well as the buildings the folks at Antenocitis Workshop are also dropping a whole bunch of scatter terrain on you too including crates, barricades, natural vegetation and they're even working on some vehicles too!
Overall if you're interested in this kind of Sci-Fi terrain that we previewed on a Weekender not long ago you'll want to jump in on this one we feel. With Infinity N3 on the way as well it could be perfect for a full on Infinity experience with the new edition.
On top of being good for Infinity this kind of terrain would work just as well for a whole host of other Sci-Fi games including something like Afterlife from Anvil Industry wouldn't you say?
Check out the video at the top of this piece too as it shows off a whole 4x4 table covered in their terrain.
What do you think of the offerings?
I’m in. As well as Infinity it’ll be great for Relic Knights as well.
I managed to snag one of the larger pledges and am super excited about getting hold of the merch. The guys have been doing a great job of fielding questions from potential backers and listening to their input. The Super Hawk dropship stretch goal just got unlocked for extra awesomeness too.
I’ve no need for the buildings, but the resin scatter that is available is rather lovely.
I’m loving this, love the buildings and resin parts inside! Just wish I had the money to grab a few…even one would be nice!
I have the feeling that Antenocitis Workshop underestimated how popular this stuff was going to be, considering how nearly all the pledges even at the top level sold out within…24-48 hours.
Happy to see that it has worked out for them though. I know that most of the pledges have sold out, but I believe you can still pledge £1 and then make you own order (?)…maybe….
And pledged 🙂 Had to be a bit selective to get a June one though ready for the summer – actually spending less than I’d intended to. I think they did underestimate it 🙂
I don’t think they underestimated as much as actually worked out what they could deliver within reasonable timelines unlike a lot of KickStarters which just take the money and think about delivery afterwards.
I think their responsible approach to the KickStarter should be applauded.
That is true but from their comments and updates early in the campaign it did also seem like it took off much better than expected. In fairness to other companies, AW produce everything in-house and have a lot of experience doing it, so they know exactly what their capacity is, and what the existing workload is like, plus most of the product was designed and ready to go into production.
I agree – appreciate them not making promises they can’t keep
They’re being careful not to over-promise what they can produce with their current resources, but they responded the initial demand by factoring in a new laser cutter to open up more pledges.
I had to drop my First Base pledge down to Home Alone when one of the 1st wave slots opened up, but reckon I’ll add at least a couple more buildings in during the pledge manager phase, probably some scatter as well 🙂
And I just found Laughing Jack’s range of container-based scenery. Looks like it’ll mesh well with the Forward base stuff potentially….

Sadly, the shipping to NZ is simply to expensive for me to justify going in. :/
Fell in love with this stuff after seeing it on infinity 3 week
I’m tempted to back, but mainly for the scatter and i might consider one of the bigger buildings but i have a lot of structires already
I’ve backed for some scatter terrain because a ~£100 building pledge plus all the trimmings is more than I can afford right now.. but hopefully I will be able to get a Science Centre or at least some wall panels when the PM comes out.
I was impressed by the pre-release habitat that was on the Weekender, but seeing all the different designs, the interior decoration, the roof decoration, made me spend more on this KS than I’d intended (story of my life…)
The way that it all ties together and creates a believable environment is great, it’ll be like playing Mass Effect on the tabletop.
