Time for something new!
Andy and Sam have a look at some of this month's popular wargaming magazines.
This month we look at White Dwarf, Wargames Illustrated and Miniature Wargames.
Do you have any suggestions for other magazines you would like to see discussed?
You should of course also take a look at Privateer Press No Quarter Magazine.
Nice feature
pp No Quarter should be in there for sure
For historical if you can snag a copy Slingshot from Society of Ancients (not full of shiney and maybe a bit dry for many)
the free pdf fanzines out there might be good as well- eg Ancible etc
BTW: Clash of Empires is one of many new ancients rule sets that came out recently
Certainly was the best battle report for a long while – there was no army that ”had” to win because it was being released so it was a proper nice battle. Good people playing as well.
the Perry Twins and Rick Priestley in one room playing ancient history battles …good thing Jervis Johnson didnt joined in or the the universe may have collapsed due to to much awesome design-intelligence in one part of the space ^^
Just imagine if Andy Chambers beamed in to join them, a worm hole would open up and all matter would become as liquid gold…
Mantic’s Journal…
This is a little out of date, but with the advent of the confrontation line coming back to life, it be great to have a review of the old Cry Havoc mag from rackham. Even if it just to cover the painting tips that are top class.
Confrontation isnt coming back to life. A company has the right to produce the old models and some that were not released. It’s still a dead product.
Yeah, just like Chess. Haven’t seen a new model for the black army in centuries 😉
Unseen Lerker is another one to add to the mix.
I agree with this, and I really need to touch base with the guys at UL!
Would love to see a review of Game Forces magazine. While it deals with the other major aspect of the hobby it is a wonderful mag covering a variety of releases from all sorts of manufacturers. And the plethora of large color pics are truly inspirational and a wonderful glimpse into what is possible. And as a close second I would love to get Romain’s take on Ravage magazine. Considering there is no English edition that I’m aware of he would be your ” man in Amsterdam ” for that.
I would enjoy a review of PP No Quarter too.
The can be quite interesting depending on the month and the army you play
good, only the White Dwarf is already a month old, so try to cover the newest one next time 😉
http://irregularmagazine.com/ heres a free downloadable one
Good idea for a feature guys 🙂
If I had the money, I’d offer to front the cost for a Beasts of War magazine of epic proportions – just out of curiosity, have you guys ever considered a magazine, would you at least like to if circumstance (and money) permitted?
Magazines are a dead format. BoW have gone far beyond that format and are much better for it. I’d love it if BoW did their own battle reports though.
It would be nice, though I can see how it would be a technical nightmare. They’re loads of work to do in written format, and though video would avoid a lot of that problem it would probably have to get chopped into bits for broadcast for length alone.
Worthwhile ambition though.
Great new feature 🙂
wow thnx guys love historical stuff wargaming minatures rocks
I think john stallard was the 4th player?
also if you like big Napoleonic battles check out this site

3.33: Sam says ‘you almost have to feel shame on ma..’ definitely about to name and shame mat ward 😛
I think a lot of people are skeptical about white dwarf: for a while it did turn into a catalogue but I think in recent months it has been more of a magazine – and a good read therefore.
seems a good show to add to the BoW arsenal
Thank you Andy and Sam. As many have said before me but I also like to see Privateer Press No Quarter Magazine.
No Quarter by Privateer Press. You guys have really neglected your Warmachine/Hordes articles etc. lately. Not much on FOW either. Can’t even review the old videos because of the youtube problem and they haven’t been reposted. Starting to lose interest in BOW
1. Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy
2. Ancient Warfare Magazine
3. Medieval Warfare Magazine
