Tharn Champions & Big Guns Go Boom In Privateer’s Hordes
December 23, 2016 by brennon
Privateer Press has focused in on some more Hordes releases in the run up to Christmas and these three new sets are also available to buy now. Let's kick off with the Tharn Wolf Rider Champion.
"Scarred and battered veterans, wolf rider champions are the embodiment of the speed, agility, and ruthlessness for which their kind are known. Each has survived countless battles and has built a reputation one perfect kill at a time.
Champions subdue only the most willful and physically imposing dusk wolves as mounts, regarding the training of such beasts as a challenge and desiring a hunting partner with strong predatory instincts to match their own."
We'd taken a look at this model when it was in the render stage and it was impressive then. I think now it's had a lick of paint it looks all the better although the details on the Wolf itself seem to be a bit softer and muted. It might just be the choice of colours.
Either way, she's a stunning rider who is positioned nicely and quite naturally (I think at least) in the saddle. A cool solo!
Trollblood Guns
Following on from that we're turning the big guns on those monsters too big for the Trollbloods to take down with their axes. Here we have the plastic Pummeler and Thumper Crews.
"Thumper and pummeler cannons are the most powerful mobile artillery possessed by the Trollbloods. Originally naval cannons donated to the kriels, thumpers fire devastating cannonballs that punch through walls of enemy fortifications and flatten their warbeasts.
The trollkin-designed pummeler instead fires devastating chain shot used for breaking troop formations from a distance, ideal for thinning enemy lines and mowing down anything in its firing arc."
While I'm a big fan of the beer swigging side of the Trollbloods I do also like the fact that some of them bring some seriously big guns and dangerous technology to the tabletop. They aren't quite the units for me but on the tabletop they pack a bunch and can bring down Warbeasts and Warmachines without you having to go near them - which is always a plus.
Will you be picking up some more from Hordes?

Tharn on her wolf and those trolls with those cannons are really good.
For some reason I don’t really like Warmahordes models. It’s as if the details always seem soft or very thick when they should not be.
Love the trollbloods but those wolves look decidedly “elfy” …..I don’t like “elfy”
