Skorne Errata Hits For Hordes + Primecast Episode 40 From Privateer Press
January 18, 2017 by brennon
Privateer Press has quite the big info dump for you this week as a whole host of new Errata comes your way for the forces of Skorne.
From Jason Soles...
"In my mind, the Skorne Faction primarily suffered from a series of big changes we wanted to see made to the game as a whole. While not targeted directly at the Skorne, these adjustments compounded and had a distinct effect on how the Faction would play going forward.
They were also coupled with a desire on our part to generate design space for future growth and with an unfortunate lack of time for troubleshooting. We ran out of time to double-check our work and ensure the quality of play was maintained for all the game elements that we altered."
You can find more of his thinking here on the changes needed for Skorne and what they've looked to achieve. There's also a list of links below taking you to the important bits and bobs you need as a budding Warcaster or scarred veteran Warlock.
There's much more depth to their decision making than we can go into here but if you're a die-hard Hordes player and you love Skorne then this seems to be a welcome change.
Primecast!
While you're looking through the new Errata you could also take in their latest episode of Primecast.
Here's a rundown of what's in the episode...
"Join our hosts Will Hungerford and Will Shick as they chat about upcoming errata and new releases. Writing Manager Matt Goetz and talks with Shick about the rise of Protectorate of Menoth Warcaster, Tristan Durant. No Quarter Editor in Chief, Lyle Lowery and Hungerford discuss the return of GRIND™ and other No Quarter games.
The episode wraps up with Will and Will giving send us out with a preview of the next Primecast."
Sounds very cool! It's always fun to hear from the developers themselves as to how changes came about and what lies ahead.

I don’t play Skorne but do know that this is one of the more temperamental armies for my friends and any errata that makes them work smoother will be welcomed.
Looking at the errata from first impressions it makes infantry armies of swordsmen fun, and Hexeris1 back to his MK2 play style with the new spells making him thematically even more vampiric like. Mix in Aptimus and those two can happily cycle parasite on targets.
“We ran out of time to double-check our work and ensure the quality of play was maintained for all the game elements that we altered” A very humble aknowledgement. Skorne already suffered a bit from “skornergy” in MkII. I can’t help but wonder why they released a MkIII edition when all the MkII edition was needing was a bit of balancing for some factions and some fine tuning. Knowing that they didn’t have time to playtest and quality check this edition we’ll probably have to face other balance issues. I know many players that haven’t played since the release of… Read more »
There were some big changes to Mark III- among them the finer point values (points are doubled, allowing more gradation), High battlegroup points (a ‘caster can get all their war-nouns just from their extra points) and the warjack buffs. ‘Jacks generating focus points is a huge change. I don’t think I love the rolling errata that they’re doing now, but I can see the use in such a thing- they can keep double checking things and rebalancing things as they go. Warmachine was probably already the best tournament style miniatures game (it is close if it isn’t at the very… Read more »
