Textured Bases Made Easy Through Awesome Kickstarter
August 20, 2013 by brennon
If you're interested in getting an original looking base but don't want to go through the pains of sculpting it yourself then this might just be the Kickstarter for you. Check out these Base Stampers below...
If you think this looks complicated, it's really not. Here are the steps below...
What you will need to make great bases in three easy steps.
Modelling Putty, Texture Stamp, 25mm Round Base.
Step 1: Roll the putty into a ball and place in the centre of the base.
Step 2: Stamp down the putty and leave to dry.
Step 3: Paint and mount your figure on the base.
Now that sounds like a simple but incredibly easy way of sorting things out. They have already been funded but you still have time to jump in on the action. As well as the basic 28mm bases they also do work for Bike Bases and Square Bases too.
A nod must go to rosspot83 for spotting this one!
What do you think?
The street one looks pants unfortunately
The rest on the other hand look well, though the earth ones takes not much time to scratch tbh
Neat idea with nice low cost entry level.
And for once it is in the UK so no postage excess twice the cost of the amount you are pledging! lol
Not really seeing anything. I would have been tempted by the graveyard if it had actually been a graveyard rather than a skullery
Some of them look a bit soft, but it could be the paint job… Or simply stamping on too hard. Who knows ?
In any case, this looks great, and could solve many default basing problems for a lot of people, especially for armies !
The sci fi ones are very good. The dirt ones are simple yet effective
i think the problem is that on the ones that have a pattern on them (pavements, floor tiles etc) it rounds the edges off which doesn’t look right, but on the dirt ones it seems to work really well and i’m very tempted to get some.
I really like the graveyard designs, this looks like a cheap and easy way to solve basing problems for amateurs.
Im not into the really tall base vibe that has been in vogue for a few years now, but the occasional base with extra detail is fun.
These are a great idea well executed. Any softness in the stamp could surely be covered up with traditional basing techniques (sand or flock or whatever), also making each base unique rather than a carbon copy clone.
Im tempted to pick up a couple of sets, just for fun really, like a Play-Doh toy 😉
I used these stamps from Happy Seppuku

They work great and they just finished a very successful KS. Plus you are not limited to a certain base size.
I like those ones. Are the available outside the US anywhere? I hate the risk of import tax. I’ve been caught out before.
The only problem with that is it’s a flat mould, really it’s designed for resin pouring. So even if you just put green stuff on a base like these it’s going to be hard to get even pressure to all of your base. Where as theses you have your base flat and push down on top of it.
A great idea if you want something quick and easy. Personally i prefer to try and tie my bases to my gaming board but i like anything that makes things easy.
The thing with me is I want different bases for my infinity factions. I did that with my ariadna, unfortunately painting builtup saw dust to look like thick mud takes a lot of paint. That’s why I want the dirt road ones. My nomads are a piece of pee as they have tarmac. But my yu jing are going to have sci fi now. Yay. It’d cost me a fortune for all those bases
If you tie your forces to the gaming board, doesn’t that make thinks tricky in the movement phase?
More seriously Quirkworthy (Jason what writes rules for Dreadball and other stuff) tried using clear bases so that it didn’t matter what sort of terrain the model was on, the basing didn’t clash.
Which was an interesting idea imho

An interesting idea. I certainly like the battlefield set. But sharp edges, lik on the street tiles, seem to be a bit problematic still. Perhaps this can be solved with some additional sculpting work, But that reduces the ‘easy’ label for this product.
Nice idea. Which has given me a great idea ! Buy some scenic bases and then use insta mould to take casts then bosh em out of milliput 🙂 job done.
Well, yes you could do that.
But it would leave a bad taste in the mouth, and not because of eating the Milliput! 😉
Not exactly digging the execution, but the idea’s a grand one.
Think it’s a cool idea and agree whilst all the bases not to my taste would def make basing a lot easier and cheaper than buying ready cast resin ones. For those with less time on their hands could work well. Also sent me off looking round KS and found this for an alternative take on a similar theme:
