Ironfist Publishing Preview Newest Battlegroup Sourcebook
January 29, 2016 by brennon
Ironfist Publishing have been showing off some previews of the new book for Battlegroup called Wacht Am Rhein. As you can see by the cover here this is going to involve a lot of snow and it's making me feel chilly just looking at it...
You will be playing through the Battle of the Bulge and more in this book and bringing a range of forces to the tabletop. You can check out the contents below as well as a sample scenario.
Battlegroup is growing in popularity as a game it seems and it looks like a very in-depth World War II experience. The Battle of the Bulge is also a massive conflict which always looks like it will be fun to play out. I like any battles that take place in the snow.
Will you be picking this up?

I will order it first thing monday morning!
Battlegroup is by far the best WW2 game of it’s type. It is so much better than FoW – you get everything in one book and the rules make sense.
Once you have the rule book all you need is minis and off you go. Unlike other ‘lesser’ products you will be playing it without having to look at the rulebook every two minutes – what a bonus!
Not sure about the authors – a bit dodgy if you ask me.
I thought this should be getting more attention that just a bit at the side…
I agree, this rule-set should get more coverage and 20mm scale as well.
I have some of the books – really looking forward to the Western Desert campaign (hint hint).
@unclejimmy
Pot calling kettle black!
Got some more previews to come…
…and?
@Piers will there be a Battlegroup Great War?
It’s something we have thought about…
It would be awesome! You guys should totally do that (but not until after you get out both North Africa books =)
Well I want a Burma book too… and Cold War!
Not to mention our WW2 ‘extended’ 1946 idea…
Yes, Yes to all!
Now that would be interesting…very!
nice.
@Piers erm… keeping it under your hat eh, gotta admit surprise to see Bulge supplement rolling out as I thought it was warmer climates you were bringing next. All the same a welcome addition 🙂
This was actually due out last December… Desert War is still the next core supplement.
@piers what interests me are the number of technology improvements that occurred between Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge including the number of Sherman variants and such nice little things like the Pak50. So will the battle of the Bulge supplement slot in after D-Day or will that be covered by supplements that will slot in between the 2.
The bulge book is more a campaign pack, for use with Overlord, to cover the fighting in the Bulge rather than being one of the large supplements. It adds some additional rules and unit types but over half the book is scenarios and a narrative campaign.
Will you be bringing your toys to Salute Piers?
Unlikely this year… we didn’t get a table!
So will just be my display work for PSC there.
Are you planning to go to Bovington?
Yes I have been asked to do Bovvy… But don’t think Woz can make it so not sure what will happen as yet. Also booked to go to the big gaming expo in Birmingham too.
I’ll keep up with the exercise plan…
@piers please do a WWII ’46 supplement! I have 1/72 scale Maus, E-100, and IS-3 I need to play with!
Just getting into Battlegroup have the rule book and Normandy supplement so time to buy the models i am thinking 15mms get more on the table.
