Footsore Preview New Late Anglo-Saxons For January 2021
December 29, 2020 by brennon
Footsore Miniatures & Games are going to be adding some more Late Saxons to their collection of Dark Age models in January 2021. The range, which we saw previewed earlier in the year, by Matthew Bickley, is going to be packed with iconic characters and grim Huscarls.
Late Saxon Characters // Footsore Miniatures & Games
Leading the way we have a set of characters who you can use to lead the way during your battles. On the far left, you've got two generic Warlords and as you move right you've also got Harold Godwinson and Hereward The Wake. Maybe you could change the fate of England at Hastings during 1066? Don't worry though as Hereward is there to dog and nip at the heels of the Normans for many months afterwards. He is a very cool character and well worth looking into!
This set of characters are then finished off with a Priest who will be trying his best to use faith to protect your warriors as they charge another Viking shieldwall. All of the miniatures that you see here have been painted by Ben MacIntyre who has done a sterling job.
Loyal Retainers
Supporting these characters as they command your force you've also got a new set of Huscarls. Some of them come with the deadly Dane Axe at the ready, positioned to hew their way through the enemy defences.

If you're looking to afford your troops a little more protection and you don't fancy being at the tip of the boar's snout then you can also arm your Huscarls with spears and shields instead.

I really like how all of these have been posed in the midst of battle. It is going to make for a really dynamic looking skirmishing force and they would also work well when ranked up too. I would be tempted to stick a few arrows into those shields if I wasn't afraid of them pinging off when I store them!
Are you tempted to start off your new Late Saxon force for 2021 with some miniatures from Footsore?

Footsore remain terrifically underrated when it comes to Dark Age stuff.
Ooh fabulous looking new figures.
Very cool – been reading about bands of Saxon brigands during The Anarchy (1135-1153), I can imagine even though the period is a little bit beyond this that the Saxons wouldn’t have objected to digging out grandad’s gear…
