Firelock Games Outline Plans For Blood & Plunder Kickstarter + More
August 6, 2020 by brennon
Firelock Games has taken to their blog to talk about the future of Blood & Plunder and it's upcoming Kickstarter campaign. First up though, we had some word on the next expansion book for the game which steps into the world of 18th Century with Queen Anne's War.
Queen Anne's War // Blood & Plunder
With Queen Anne's War we're moving the historical elements of Blood &7 Plunder forward with the addition of new units and factions who were active during the French & Indian Wars, King William's War and Queen Anne's War. This means we're also going to see mixed European and Native American raiding parties, Buccaneers and plenty of additional units for your existing European forces.
For those worried about balance between the 17th and 18th Century, have no fear. The team at Firelock have said that they will be well-tuned against each other and there will be plenty of support for the 17th Century too through many new releases in the coming months and years.
Blood & Plunder: Raise The Black Kickstarter
The big bit of news from this update though was that the Raise The Black book and new options for Blood & Plunder is going to be coming on October 6th, 2020. A new book PLUS some additional plastic (yes, plastic) kits are going to be arriving for the game.
Raise The Black // Blood & Plunder
This Kickstarter will focus on bringing a new series of multi-part plastic miniatures to their game. For example, the first soldier kits will contain twelve miniatures with several body, head and weapon options which can be tweaked to suit your ideal crew. You will also be able to see options on the sprues in order to add to existing metal miniatures with plenty of accessories. Going plastic seems like a great way to make the game feel more accessible for first-time players.
Legendary Pirate // Blood & Plunder
As well as providing you with options for making your regular crewmen you'll also find that the Kickstarter will offer up options to play as famous pirates from the Golden Age. They will be talking more about this over the coming weeks but you'll be able to meet plenty of key figures from the period in an updated style.
Legendary Pirate // Blood & Plunder
The Starter Set itself is going to be focused around Blackbeard's last battle against the Royal Navy and Lieutenant Robert Maynard. It's going to be a classic clash between the Pirates and the Royal Navy that people will know and love from films and TV.
This means that the Starter Set isn't just going to feature crewmen but also two small sloops! These 28mm Bermuda Sloops are also going to be available in plastic so all you need to get going with this game once the set hits is a pair of clippers and some plastic glue. Oh, and the paint of course.

I am very much looking forward to learning more about this new Starter Set, seeing the miniatures in their new plastic form and also what they have coming up from these two books as well. It seems like a great time to get involved with some piratical adventures on the high seas with more of a focus on the historical elements rather than the romanticised version of it we see in other games.

After overcoming some problems during the last few months internally it seems like Firelock Games are ready and raring to go with their updates for Blood & Plunder. We're big fans of the folks at Firelock and we love their game so no doubt we will find the time to do more Let's Plays and such in the future.
We have Let's Plays and more for you to check out HERE if you want to get a taste of this game before diving in. Make sure to give some of these videos a watch.
Are you going Raise The Black on Kickstarter?
"The Starter Set itself is going to be focused around Blackbeard's last battle against the Royal Navy and Lieutenant Robert Maynard..."
Ooh their stunning looking figures.
Stunning looking 3D renders actually.
I hope they manage this Kickstarter better. The last delivery was delayed, which I accept will happen. But, while I waited I found them selling the new “kickstarter” over the counter at a wargaming show. Bad form. Still, I’m sure I will be an early backer as I really love this game.
Small companies can not afford to sit on stock just to ensure a few backers get their games before retail.
And do not underestimate the logistical challenge of shipping to backers vs shipping to retail.
I’ve seen more than a few kickstarters at retail before I got my copy.
It happens.
And to be honest … it’s why I back kickstarters to begin with.
I don’t need to be the first to play.
I want it to be seen at retail and conventions.
I can see your point, but I may wait to purchase at retail. “once bitten, twice…”
Outside of the OTT store I have only seen one local webshop sell Blood&Plunder.
As such I kind of have to either back the kickstarter or wait.
And as I said … I like the concept too much to not back this (again).
Knowing me I probably will pick one of the top tiers as shipping is expensive so it had better be worth it. 😀
We have never sold Oak & Iron at a show. It is possible that some retailers who backed the Kickstarter were able to get some copies out there, but they would have had their copies at the same time as the rest of the backers.
Delays can happen, but we have some new partners that are a lot more professional this time around. I hope you’ll give us another shot 🙂
Very nice set of future releases ahead and will be checking out the Kickstarter
Colour me excited, been looking at their british to go with my reworking of RoSD in a Pirates of the Caribbean style
It probably doesn’t help Firelock’s bottom line, but B&P has forever been on my “if I expanded into just ONE more game/era” list for years now. And I reckon I’m not alone.
No you’re not…
More Blood & Plunder you say ?
Where do I sign ?
Arrh!
I just hope plastic kits won’t be a ship too far for them.
I missed out on the last kickstarter and have been so close to picking it up but it was set a little early for me. This period is what I’ve been waiting for. I’m definitely watching this one closely!!
That will cost me a few.
Backed all of the Kickstarters so far, and this will be no different
New Blood and Plunder is always a good thing. Any word on the plastic ships?
At least one plastic ship will be part of this project 🙂
To be honest I would be more interested if they focused on the pirate naval actions in 16th-17th century Asia, their rules would be perfect.
