Warren has popped over to the West Wind studio to have a chat about their new War & Empire game that is currently on Kickstarter. From the look of things this will be another 15mm game for Warren to have some fun with, I'm just wondering if this means he'll be getting the team dressed up in some silly costumes for videos on this one.
Not going to be able to get in on the KS but I know where I’ll be picking up my 15mm ancients in future. Best of luck with and looking forward to seeing the rules.
Your wondering if he’s going to get the team dressed up. I’d be worried in case he’s going to get the team stripped off and covered in woad. 🙂
I’d like to hear more about the rule set
Have yet to get into anything smaller than 28mm yet. DZC is just a little too expensive for me (even though the 2-player starter is an amazing deal) and I just can’t get into WW2 gaming (plus FoW is even more expensive). But these seem to have some great promise. They fit a time period I enjoy and may end up not being too expensive once they hit retail. Even if I don’t like WW’s rules they would probably work great for something like Hail Caesar!. Like redben I can’t afford to jump into the KS…but I’ll be looking for… Read more »
You shouldn’t have any issues playing Hail Caesar with them. DBM and Impetus are also worth checking out.
So, Warren, a Siege of Alesia board for the next gaming board project? 😉
Thats a big project. It will take some… gaul
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN
They should Caese-ar the opportunity while they have the chance.
I dont have a come back for that…
I should start Roman the internet for an answer
bam 😉
Any more of these Crass-us puns and you’ll Sulla your good name.
I’m gonna scipi over this if you don’t mind
Thankfully no Pompeii jokes or was that just the prologue?
This sounds like it could be turn into Rome:Total War on the tabletop, so looking forward to see how it turns out.
That’s one of the big pluses with historical gaming. When you’ve invested your money into some figures your not stuck with the one rule set.
@redben & lafayette Wow, that managed to be both painful and entertaining. 🙂
@huscarle Yeah, it is one of the appeals I’ve had towards it. I’m also thinking of going 15mm scale because I think I’ve reached my cap for 28 – 32mm scale minis. They look awesome but between cleaning, assembly, and painting I think I’ve got enough to last me for years as it is. 🙂
15mm scale seems like it will be a bit easier and lighter in that regard. Just curious has anyone tried Hail Caesar? Is it any good?
I own and have read the HC rules but haven’t played them. They’ve got a unique command & control system for activating units and I suspect how you take to it will depend on whether you like HC or not.
Looks great imho, Romens are an auto include but as there are yet to be any rules, how do you choose what models you want in your KS? Also which army is the polar opposite in fighting style to the Romans? Come on Ben, I know you know this one. Hehe. 🙂
From what they’ve got available, if you want Romans fighting a thematic opponent with a different fighting style then go for Late Republican Romans against Gauls. It doesn’t look like there’s a Parthian army on the horizon which would be another good choice.
Cheers Ben, I think it would be a good idea for Romens vs Gauls, as there seems a lot of difference and as you say, could play HC with them too, hehe.
It looks like there might be Parthians after all. They’re a horse archer army so a very different playstyle from Romans.
I wonder if these rules will be suitable for 28mm since I’ve got a fair collection of Carthaginians at that scale.(And I don’t fancy redoing a Carth army in 15mm)
A flood of memories of Asterix swept over my brain. Remember Vercingetorix? I was at Alesia, I was!
“I don’t know where Alesia is! No one knows where Alesia is!”
Good Looking Miniatures!!!! My experience with 15mm Ancients is mostly through De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) played with fewer miniatures on a 2′ X 2′ board
I’ll have to look into this game; it seems the components will support other games as well…
It looks as if Andy Cooper of West Wind Studios has raided my personal library; I recognized quite a few books on the shelves that match those in my collection, and not just the Osprey titles…
It is cool to watch Warren become a student of History, whether he wants to or not….. he seems to be holding his own in a “sink or swim” smorgasbord of historical fact…. 😀
Managed to sell off some stuff and raise enough for the £60 level. Now all I need is an opponent lol.
