Take The Side Of Studio’s Afghans In The Northwest Frontier
April 22, 2013 by brennon
Studio Miniatures might enjoy modelling a fair few zombies but they also look at the historical too with their latest update being to the Northwest Frontier range. They have just released three sets of Afghan Tribesmen to bring the fight to the British...
Above you can see some of the Afghan Tribesmen of the type that would have been fighting against the British Empire during its period of control over that area of Asia.
The thing that drew me to these models are that they are incredibly nicely detailed from what I can see here. I love the rough and ready bandit nature of the models with their assortment of different weapons clashing like rifles and then swords and shields.
I reckon you could even use some of these guys without the rifles for periods further back in history.
What do you think of them?
Anyone else thinking of recreating Carry On Up The Khyber?
You could have a Warmachine-style feat of the 3rd Foot and Mouth raising their kilts – prompting a leadership test for every Burpa unit.
What time is tiffin?
You British are tiffin-mad!
Put the tea in the cup before the milk and they go berserk!
Quite rightly so.
Also don’t forget to warm the pot first and it is one spoon of leaves per person and add one for the pot.
You’re allowed sugar, but some people will look at you funny. And if you even think of lemon, they will know. And they will kill you.
I like how they where painted.
They do look good
Wonder if the Persian calligraphy is a decal.
It says the flag and flagpole are not included so it is presumably printed on paper
Pashtun, surely… not Persian. Calligraphy of the Pashto language. Most of these guys either speak Pashto, Dhari, or (more rarely) Urdu, if they’re who I think they are.
I’ll grant you that they’re languages derived from the Iranian (Farsi), but let’s not over-simplify, here ! 😉
I don’t know if it’s a decal… It looks painted, but the placement suggests either a decal smaller than the banner, or poor planning on the painter’s part (even though it’s a very lovely job if painted on).
I was thinking that Persian is the lingua franca of Islam
Got it wrong anyway because that would be Arabic
Herp Derp is lingua franca for fools!
Don’t beat yourself up !
Many people think even English is a lingua franca, where it really isn’t.
The more you travel, the more you realize there’s no lingua franca… People who want to communicate with strangers simply start speaking “a little” of a language you thought you were familiar with, but is mangled beyond recognition. 🙂
