Darrell and Andy discuss the latest Dark Age skirmish game to come from Gripping Beast... SAGA..
Played Saga for the first time yesterday had a great time there is an expantion that came out last week with 4 new Factions including the Scotts.
I found it very easy to pick up
Seems like a really good game. Was going to pick up the rules last week but paying £25 for them new didn’t seem like a good deal at the time. Going to see if I can grab the rules at a little cheaper and then buy some of the Wargames Factory Dark Age miniatures for the hordes of warriors. Seems like the most cost effective way to play it. Also rather encouraged by the fact that it requires not much else other than a basic force to enjoy and a lot of the fun is tied into the narrative running… Read more »
As the makers say very easy to learn to play but hard to master.
The new expansion has just been released with new factions Scots. Anglo Saxons, Jomsvikings and Bretons.
I really like this game it’s great fun. The rules and dice are slightly expensive but the low cost of figures more than compensates.
Saga is a fun and different game, unlike anything I have ever played. The armies all play differently thanks to the battleboard that gives you different abilities rather than a different stat-line like most other games.
That looks like fun.
as a system its really good the battledice put a nice twist on the game, but you don’t have to pay for the dice you can download the symbols off the saga forum,
the only down side I would say is that there is not campaign rules and some of the scenarios are a tad naff.
I really like the idea of this game. The only problem is, that it’s quite expensive for a game that I might or might not like, I think a lot of people feel the same. A quick play PDF intro might be good way for people to dip there toe in the water…
@tony I don’t know where your from but if you live in the Uk and can get to a show where Gripping Beast are exhibiting they do run demos.
Or you could split the cost of the rules with one of your mates.
Anyway as you can probably tell from my Avatar I’m really keen on warfare in the Dark Ages, so I’am a little biased, that aside I do feel these rules really capture the flavour of the period but most importantly they are fun
If you are going to Salute Gripping beast have 4 tables demo/participation Saga
I’ll sharpen my axe
Look forward to the Joms after seeing the greens – and need to buy yet an other Egil Skallagrimsson to get his card
@rasmus Hi you can download Egils card from the Saga Forum in the armoury section under Egil Sven and flemish mercs.
ohhh yes and when you have managed to get too many figures from the Dark Age you can always have a look Ave Ceasar or one of the other larger level games
