Run Out the Guns for a Naval Warfare Kickstarter
August 3, 2012 by brennon
The Run Out the Guns Kickstarter is an interesting one. Laser Dream Works have been crafting ships for naval warfare on the table top but they also need your help so they can begin casting cannons and miniatures for the decks of these ocean going craft.
Above are just a few of the ships they craft using laser cutting. But without cannons, these ships are pretty much just floating transports. With the funds from the Kickstarter they will be able to add Cannons to all of their ships, as well as miniatures to crew them.
Here is a prototype of one of the cannons, designed for an American ship. Could this be leading to an awesome naval warfare game? And for those of you enjoy the Dark Ages they also craft a Viking Longship (I dug this one out mainly because I liked it I think!)
So what do you reckon, is this a Kickstarter worth putting your money behind?
Let us know below what you think of naval warfare!
I don’t know. 28mm seems too big for a naval skirmish…
With games like Freebooters and Cutlass the ships are desirable.
Just not convinced that lasercut is an ideal medium for cannon.
@chibi “I have done a VERY Rough mock up of the barrel as well to give a sense of scale. Unfortunately I will have to wait for the project to be funded to get the precision lathe work needed to make truly exceptional cannon barrels.” – quote from the line above the photo on Kickstarter.
The main campaign goal is to raise enough money to purchase the spin cast equipment. To make cannons and other nautical accessories.
It would be awesome if these guys teamed up with Freebooters or Cutlass!
Thanks for the correction Battledice!
my bad. *facepalm*
I agree with Echilda. Too big @ 28mm. The viking long boat is awesome tho. Maybe they could do something around that.
I picked up six of the Viking Longships to give all my Wargames Factory Vikings a ride. They are great lasercut kits and easy to put together.Really economical way to put together a beefy raider force. The other ships are, perhaps, too big for a naval skirmish, but ideal for close-in boarding actions. Nothing says lovin’ like raking a deck with chain shot.
A decent Longboat at a reasonable price would be great.
28mm too big for naval skirmish. Whats wrong with using the floor or the garden?
Value for money on the Viking ships is great, $20! The Kickstarter is not quite halfway and with four days to go. Can only hope people jump on board now. I’m in for the Pirate ship ($85) that comes with a few extras thrown in. Laser Dream Works should really get a solid deal going with Black Scorpion. It all looks like great stuff.
