The Raven’s Shadow Is Cast Across SAGA & Gripping Beast
October 2, 2012 by brennon
Some great updates are on the way for SAGA by Tomahawk Studios and Gripping Beast. Check out the snippets below that were previewed in the Gripping Beast Newsletter last night!
First up is news of The Raven's Shadow, the next expansion for the SAGA Dark Age Skirmish game. Above is the French version of the cover, but a full run down of the new book will be coming very soon! I am certainly very excited for this and can't wait to see whats on offer.
Next up is Gunnar Hamundarson, another Hero of the Viking Age that can be added to your warband, leading them into battle with spear and sword bared. I love the dynamic pose they have got him in and its interesting to see a warrior not just coated in chainmail.
Next up are The Gall-Gaedhil, a band of nefarious mercenaries that can also join in the SAGA fun. There are some great models in there, each with their own flavour. It seems like a lot of work has gone into making them feel like a mercenary crew, their variety of arms and armour speaking to their multicultural service.
Some fantastic miniatures for a fantastic game!
Will anyone be picking these up to add to their warband? I am very tempted by Gunnar!

SAGA is my go to game at the moment and it’s nice to see it is well supported with rules updates and new warbands. Quite an attainment for a historical wargame. I think the appeal of SAGA is that it’s really fun to play and the players can be as historically accurate as they want.
Hopefully the we see a proper campaign system for the game at some point, although I’m quite sure there’s a fan made version some where out there. But I’m eagerly waiting what the Raven’s Shadow will bring to the table.
Here is a fans attempt at a Progression/Advancement system for campaigns etc…

Haven’t read through it but found it through the Tomahawk Studios forums.

@brennon Thanks!
Great news. I’ve been waiting for this. I don’t know anymore about the contents other than what I posted on the LOTR forum a few months ago. Which was Hiberno Norse, Irish and maybe a continental warband.
Bare in mind I also said there would be a Byzantine battle board in Wargames illustrated but that tuned out to be Arabs.
I like Gunnar but some of the mercenaries look a bit lame. May just be me.
Looking forward to seeing it – Good to see the Saga heroes make it to Saga the game
If anyone is going to Warfare in Reading next month. I’ve heard Alex Buchel from Tomahawk Studios will be there to talk to, as well as Gripping Beast who are always on hand to part me from my cash.
There is also a Saga competition, which I have entered. Should be fun.
Hrumph.
Out here on the West Coast of the States, we’ve been waiting for a SAGA release – ANY release – for months. None of our distributors can get hold of them, and I’ve had much stuff on backorder with them since July, with each month coming and going and no product.
Three times now the due date has been pushed back. I love what I’m seeing on the internet, but it’s hard to stay enthusiastic, and even harder to be impressed by new stuff, when the old stuff is three months overdue.
