Patrol The Borders With Crann Tara Gallowglass
February 15, 2014 by brennon
When I used to play a lot of Medieval II: Total War I would play as the Scottish most of the time. One of the units they could depend on were the Gallowglass and Crann Tara Miniatures have made a few of them for use on the tabletop.
These rather stationary warriors would be great for putting deeper within a unit and then watching the land around the borders to make sure no upstart Englishmen come North. They might be fairly basic but I think they are pretty epic.
Next on the cards are a selection of advancing and attacking Gallowglass to put in the front ranks and take the fight to the enemy.
Are you in need of the Gallowglass?
Not bad sculpts but they do have rather large heads in proportion to the bodies. But then I couldn’t sculpt my way out of a wet paper bag so who am I to criticise? Nicely painted!
Agreed. First thing I noticed was the heads were oversized.
They have plenty to be big headed about.
Very nice-looking minis. Who exactly were the Gallowglass?
They are Norse Gaels in origin thats the descendents of Vikings that settled and married Scots. They later moved to Ireland. They served as elite mercenaries throughout europe right through the middle ages often as bodyguards. They were also famed for being armed with a massive two handed weapon the Sparth axe.
Claymore Castings do some nice Gallowglass
