As a FoW noob myself I’m really enjoying this. Using a Schwere PzAbt army from Grey Wolf, with 3 King Tigers so will be fascinated to learn how your KT gets on.
And as for Dave, well what can I say other than hats off to your the whole uniform madness.
Will there be any video coverage of your tourny exploits?
Dave, snazzy outfit once again. Great looking army too. Warren, great to see those troops getting assembled and painted. I know you are running out of time, but my advice still would be to study those missions and take time to plan your setup in different scenarios like you did in the video.Even better, try to play a quick game with a mission that feels tricky (just the deployment and couple of the first turns, if you are really short of time). It helps you get the general feel and flow of the missions and gives you some experience with… Read more »
Mate you are already in my head, I think it may have been you that suggested this before, since we filmed this myself and Dave actually had a ‘training session’ where we would pick a mission, deploy and play a turn (or 2) each.
I found this immensely helpful, and plan to talk more about this on XLBS on Sunday.
Right now, I’m afraid, but getting quite excited!
Well, glad to hear that I’ve been able to provide some assistance.
Don’t worry about the tournament jitters, just remember to have fun and hopefully you won’t have to coat any Stugs in vaseline.
Great stuff. I like the ‘in the action’ feel of the vlog. Nothing too scripted. Best part though was at 11:21 when Warren was struck speechless hearing that it was possible he wouldn’t get any reserves during ‘delayed reserves’ with the roll of 5+ on turn three out. Dave saved him some, but it was funny see the look on his face!
I love BoW.. I really do.
If you are at all concerned with making your reserve rolls, you might want to see if you can fit in Warrior Dietrich von Saucken for 65 points somewhere. (Probably too late but thought I would toss it out there) He gives All platoons within Command Distance of von Saucken may reroll any failed Skill Tests to make Stormtroopers moves AND Each turn von Saucken may re-roll one die rolled to receive Reserves for his company.
LOL I’ve never seen Warren look so nervous! Good luck to both of you! I bet you’ll do better than you’d think in the tourney!
As I’ve gone Bolt Action ahead of FoW, I’m really gonna have to watch the shiny syndrome. If I decide I can’t live without that 88mm flak gun it’s £25 for me.
Same here! 🙂
Am sat watching this whilst painting my Assault on Normandy set, and thinking “ooooh look at all the tanks”
This. Exactly this! Except I’m not allowed any tanks til I’ve got at least 2 x squads each of Brits and Jerry painted.
That pose would have got me killed in Inglorious Ba*tards….
8.8 FlaKs are death… in our games it was ruling me.
and i HATE HATE HATE HATE King Tigers….. fun video though. Im happy how the uniform looks too it was somthing I wanted to do for the show and the weekend Im lucky to have that jacket 39 dated which makes it 74 years old
Only really played a few games of this, but I use a list similar yours, but it’s the Stug battery from the Bridge by Bridge book. I have learnt Infantry gets left behind when your tanks charge forward! If you run them make sure they are out of LOS of as much as possible or they will get massacred. I love the fact you have Tank Riders, it stops most of your infantry being left behind, they are not an option in my book, wish they were though, they look awesome. You had the same reaction as me to the… Read more »
This may seem a silly question but why is keeping men in reserves important in flames of war? Is it vital in winning games?
Reserves are an in built part of the missions.
In many of them you have to keep half your army off the table as it is how the mission is played.
Cool Guys, bet the tension is building up :). It seems that you will be up against a few infantry based teams (1 fortified), so get the assets that are going to be most use for the team you are up against on the board first. Dave smoke’m and flank’m mate, and try and use the slow traverse against the KT (easier said than done I know), Warren don’t let the KT get flanked and hope no one has got HMS Warspite as their NGFS lol. Warren if you think you are going to be under air attack and you… Read more »
Warren if you keep forgetting the rules or stats to your troops, why not create a little aid memoire or crib cards, that only concern your troops and rules that your troops (that you are playing) can use?
Then glance at them when you have to think at what range they can move or fire, etc, I am sure no one would mind, its not like it is taking and exam.
Aha.. beret needs work…

Hot water, cold water, hot water… Put it on ya bonce, stretch.
Not wargaming related, but in the forces and it made me giggle.
Well done. A part of me (the OCD part) twitched at that as I saw it, ‘Flash Directly over the Left Eye’. Always.
Also nice to see Warren in his mid-week, Vlog shirt, not the casual, weekender T-shirt.
Dress code apart, great report guys. As a new Flames player myself this was very useful, and entertaining. You are helping me truely love this game.
PS (all the tiger has to fear is air power).
One thing to remember for deployment is that transports go to the rear when not in use so your vehicles in your 88 platoon wont deploy unless you are deploying towing them. They can be called forward anytime you want to limber up and move.
Warren: Is there going to be coverage of the tournament? Or interviews with opponents afterwards? Awesome video! Good luck at the tournament, and I’m sure your opponents will have a ball!
We don’t know at this stage, we really don’t want to ‘interfere’ with it being a tournament.
So at this stage we are going to wait and see what we can do. (And that should give us some experience for future coverage of tournaments) 🙂
Good Luck with the tournament guys!
Great vlog guys. No tips I’m afraid, I’m a noob to fow also
Get some orphan’s tears for your dice.
dave looked like monty in that video
the king tiger will be the battle winner so get it on as soon as poss and watch your opponents become obsessed by either trying to avoid it or destroy it
🙂
