Hail Caesar’s Romans Must Deal With Parthian Riders

Warlord Games have shown off some new additions to the Hail Caesar line with Parthian Horseman who will harry the Legion to the point of breaking!
The Horse Archers (apart from being annoying to play against in Age of Empires) were a force to be reckoned with and they would push and shove a the Roman army while dodging in and out of combat. The Romans liked close quarters fighting on their terms so robbing them of that was a great plus.

These guys had a knack of shooting in one direction while riding in the opposite direction – this is the origin of the expression ‘the parting shot’, derived from the Parthian shot.
True though with the caveat that Crassus was a strategical moron.
No he was a tactical moron. Strategically he was sound. That was why he was so rich. Wait for a fire, offer to buy the property for next to nothing then have his fire fighters put out the blaze.
His tactics never had the chance to be tested. He made many strategical errors in his “invasion” of Mesopotamia.
Plus he was so rich because he exploited the proscriptions of my main man Sulla (see avatar pic)

Forget Ceasar or Pompey, Sulla was the primo warlord of the Late Republican period. Never lost a battle or a war, nobody tried to assassinate him even after he dismissed his lictors, and he died peacefully in his old age of excessive partying. All the bad stuff wasn’t his fault, it was Marius’. Don’t take from Sulla what belongs to Sulla. You will regret it. On the tactics/strategy thing. Both are derived from Greek words. Horse archer armies are in vogue. Just had Steppe nomad rules released in saga and now these fellows, love the guy executing the Parthian shot..
Sulla is definitely worth reading up on.
Crassus came in search of gold, so the Parthians gave it to him by holding him down and pouring molten gold down his throat… someone get the poor sod a strepsil!
