Flames Of War Heads To The Land Of The Rising Sun
July 13, 2013 by brennon
Flames of War is pushing on into new frontiers and you can't go much further than all the way round the world to the land of the Rising Sun. In this new sourcebook you'll be able to explore the forces of the Russians, Finish and Japanese...
This book focuses on the early war period and the conflicts between Russia and Finland as well as the expansion Eastwards towards the empire of Japan.
During this period of the war the Russians had plenty of soldiers at their disposal so they have implemented the Wave Attack rule to simulate this. On top of that they will be showing off the rather brutal tanks that the Red Army had to hand.
But it's not all Russians. You'll also be able to delve into the history behind growing Finish forces and the deadly regiments under the command of the Japanese.
Above you can see just some of the boxed sets you can get hold of soon for the Japanese. You have the Sensha Platoon, the Nikuhaku Teams and the Hohei Chutai. As you can see there is quite a lot to be getting on with even now.
Will you be starting a Japanese army come the 20th of July?
YAY!!! i cant wait to get my hands on these japanese box sets, ive been waiting for them since i started play FOW!
At last we can fight it out in Asia and islands of the Pacific.
‘Bout time. More interested in this than the Vietnam thing they’ve been doing lately.
My friends have been nagging me to play Flames of War for weeks lol. 😀 Now Japan is on the new realease, i’m deffo considering playing Flames. Just curious, though, about how the Japs are gonna perform in game. 🙂
They are definitely an assault orientated army, their rules are all about getting up close and in combat and staying there when the battle is joined. They wont have a lot on the table though as their ratings put their point levels quite high (more so with their tanks and cav) but like i have stated before on this website Im a huge Japanophile so I made me start Japan as opposed to expanding my Finnish army to an early war standard. In this book though its the Soviets that many people are forgetting EW they arent thew best troops… Read more »
So if I start playing them, i’ll have to make sure they don’t get killed in order to maintain effective CC prowess. Sounds like an uphill struggle what with all the tanks everyone else has, haha (I could be wrong). Were Japanese tanks any good in WW2 btw?
The Japanese + tank + good are not three things i would normally put in the same sentence i’m afraid.
they are Inf support pieces at best, they have a lot of movement rules that will help with the getting into combat and on the assault they are nearly impossible to stop from getting into it.
And Soviet tanks will die to Human Bullet teams anyway
Ok, thanks very much the feedback lafayette. 😀 Definately something to think about when it comes to actually buying these guys.
Yeah, I’ll have to get into flames of war. I’ve been on the fence, but I just traded in some of my boardgames for $125 in store credit at my FLGS, and this book has just decided for me what I’ll be spending it on.
Didn’t realize that the true focus of this book was Early War Soviets through their Early War opponents… I’ve been a Winter War buff since the Early Eighties; I’m as excited about this as others are about thr Japanese……
I’ve been waiting for this ever since I bought my first FoW models almost a decade ago. This is great news. I recently sold all of my Germans, but will be very happy to get into the IJA as soon as time permits. Being a very committed Japanophile myself, this is almost impossible to resist.
