FireForge Take On The Mighty Mongol Golden Horde
April 23, 2013 by brennon
FireForge Games are looking to the Far East with their upcoming project as it seems the Golden Horde is about to descend. Check out the Work-in-Progress first sculpts for their Mongol Light Cavalry...
Above you can see the three-ups of the current components including some bowmen, spearmen and even some command components. They look like they have loads of motion and action to them, which they should considering they are Mongolians.
It will be fun to see how this line of miniatures develops and what other areas of history they will be exploring.
Will you be riding with the Mongols?

Another set of rather good looking riders riding small horses.
The Mongolian horses were smaller. They’re very cool
It wasn’t that long ago I was looking for some good Mongol sculpts and had a really hard time finding anything I liked. These are really nice. And being from Fireforge, the guys who heretofore have only made crusaders and are yet to make Crusades era muslims, it makes me wonder if the folks over there are reading the Mongoliad series.
I saw these in the flesh at Salute and very excited I was too. They are certainly well posed. Can’t wait for the eventual release. Asiatic/steppe Horse archer armies are devastating on the tabletop but you do tend to loose your friends 😉
awesome! heavy horse and Mongols on foot and you’ve got a unique line of models – if they’re on the ball to produce plastic Muslims, who knows, even plastic eastern Europeans, Fireforge could very quickly corner an increasingly exciting new plastics market! Can’t wait! Mongols, maybe even Mamelukes and Polish-Lithuanian/Russians to take on those pesky crusaders could quite possibly be a reality then… Bin loving the stuff so far and if they produced a European archer/burgher pike box to expand on the crusaders range they could make some serious headway into Hundred Year War territory…
Looks very nice 🙂
Far East?
It does seem an odd choice for FG’s next release given that they’ve not done the Arab Dynasties, the other army list in Deus Vult. I’m certainly not objecting to Mongols in plastic though.
I think you’re all forgetting that the golden horde smashed both the Rus and the Arab/Turkish world during the crusades
I’m not, I’m just saying it’s odd that they would release an army list in Deus Vult for Arab Dynasties but do Mongols as the next release.
You could always use them as seljuk turks
You could though tbh I’d be very happy to use them as Mongols. It’s more that I’m a little confused as to why they would release a range of minis, release a rulebook with a list for the existing range and a list for them to fight against (Arab Dynasties) but then release a completely different range instead of the AD. Why not put a Mongol list in DV?
They haven’t put them in. Ok it makes sense now. I presumed they’d be in there
