The Fearless Leaders of the Home Guard are Ready at Warlord
January 27, 2014 by dracs
Two more of Warlord's Dad's Army's miniatures have appeared. This time we are in the presence of leadership as Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson take to the field. Do you think that's wise, sir?
I think that these might be the best models which Warlord have done. They really capture their respective characters. Sergeant Wilson in particular looks like his television counterpart, although his uniformed model does look like he's on a mobile phone.
Do you think it wise to pick up these two when they come out?

Sgt Wilson is my fav charcater… One I do try to emulate…. A pick up for me for sure, Im getting them all but if I could only get one he would be my choice.
In the war John Le Mesurier was a Captain in a tank regiment… strange how things go, when I was young I thought he looks too much like my own grand father, might be a reason I like him so much.
Funny, Captain Mainwaring is pretty much identical to my own grandfather
Guy who played Frazer (name escapes me at the moment) was actually part of the real Home Guard during the war, I think he was the only cast member who had been.
Arnold Ridley who played Godfrey was badly wounded on he Somme in 1916 he was invalided out…in 1939 he signed on again and was a mjor who went over to France in 1940. He soon retired later that year and went back to England and joined the Home Guard
Never would I feel sadder obliterating an opponent that contained Dads army miniatures…

that might make you feel better about it
(though personally i think this is a really sweet song)
My next Warlord order is definitely going to include these fellas.
I’ve seen four so far; anyone know if there are any more (Frazer, Godfrey, etc.) on the way?
Must be a Pike surely?!
Oh just looked on website, of course theres a Pike!
Pike’s my fave so far, especially with the civvies version with the cricket bat.
The local paper interviewed Ian Lavender recently; he seems a thoroughly nice chap.
To answer my own question, here’s Frazer

WE’RE DOOMED. DOOOOMED I TELL YA!
Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier were superb actors, though many people say both of they played slightly exaggerated versions of themselves. I want these guys, maybe more than one set as many of my family love Dad’s Army – the reruns are always on somewhere. Great sculpts, evoking many memories of a gentle but none the less hilarious set of comedies.
As the characters are so well known most of would have a fair idea what each one would do, in a given situation there is lots of scope for some good narrative games.
Warlord’s latest update mentions they’ll add the rest of the characters tomorrow. I’m crossing em for Private Godfrey to use as a medic.
Godfrey would be good. I want to see Walker the spiv. Wonder if the series will include the likes of Hodges the ARP Warden and the Vicar.
They’d be mad not to.
Frazer: ‘Have I ever told you the tale, of the old empty barn?’
It was empty…
I so want these and they will be joining my Very British Civil War armies
Being American I really did not have an idea about these figures and the show. I have since youtube’d the show and I find myself enjoying it very much. They are now on my list to order. I am thinking a little scenario such as The Eagle has Landed versus the Home Guard?
As someone with 10k or is 20k+ points of FOW i had no interest in collecting Bolt Action. Now there is no way i’m not going to pick up this box the rules and some german parras at the very least. LOL i wonder if they will be releasing nuns as well! 🙂
