The Assault Group Unleash A Hail Of Tudor Arrows
January 21, 2013 by brennon
The Assault Group have created a new set of miniatures for the Tudor period of wargaming. Check out the Longbowmen in their early stages below, ready for war...
The longbow might have been falling out of favour by the Tudor period but it was still in use throughout the 16th and 17th Century on the battlefield. The trend was certainly leaning towards gunpowder by this point.
However, I really love the longbow and the use of it on the battlefield. It had been a staple point of the English army for many years and we had unparalleled archers.
What do you think of these Tudor bowmen?
Practice for the yeomanry was compulsory in Elizabethan England iirc and football banned because it was a distraction.
You can see notches in the stonework of church porches where arrows were sharpened.
These look really nice, Would love to see some painted up
Still is illegal to practice any other sport on a Sunday. Never been rescinded. Mind you you can also kill any Scot in the walls of York after dark. Shoot any Welsh man from the walls of Chester. And get arrested for pissing in a bucket whilst sat on a curb stone in blackpool. We’re a bit of a draft country at times.
Yes it was a Royal decree you could pay to be excused or you had to do 2 hours practice after church on Sundays which is why there a lot of areas near old churches called the Marks or The Butts.
I probably do enough time to keep 3 or 4 of us legal.
Being an archer I’m usually quite critical of archer sculpts but these look great even the last chap who has dropped his elbow and waving goodbye to his arrow.
Also good to see The Assault Group on here I have some of their WWII Japanese, cool models
