New Ashigaru Troops from Wargames Factory Out Now!
December 19, 2011 by beerogre
Wargames Factory have launched two boxed set of Ashigaru... a missile troop and a spear unit.
The missile troops come with both guns and bows, while the spears have two positions.
Those are very nice.
Any chance we’ll see an unboxing of these two kits sometime soon?
They should only really have a single sword at most AFAIK. The Sengoku era might be when the Ashigaru came to the fore, and became a professional soldier.
But war is still expensive.
Issuing all those daishō to troops that are going to use either of them rarely, if at all, is expensive too.
Nice looking models for bulking out a force though, I’d still be tempted to use Perry figures on the front ranks. Need to be strong though, I don’t need asnother army that spends years billeted in cardboard boxes waiting to be painted.
I thought the only ones officially allowed to wear two swords were the samurai anyway…
Ah apparently they did get multiple swords, hmm must have just been a different period when only samurai were allowed to wear the set of two 🙂
Or not, hmm sources differ… Anyway I’d model them with one anyway, keep the daisho for my samurai, just feels like the right thing to do
The swords are for samurai thing is mostly Edo period, the ruling is more to do with wearing swords casually.
They look better than the Samurai except that they are not looking at where they are shooting .
They’re quite good but the pose on the guns is slightly off I think, the angle of the right arm puts the pan and match right next to the shooter’s face, when it would be held out in front a bit more, its probably a limitation of doing them multi part- I think really the Greatcoat troopers are the only multi part plastics I haven’t thought “that’s not right” about how they hold their rifles- but it means they’re not actually aiming the gun just looking in the same direction it’s being fired, and also they’re gonna get a cloud… Read more »
I like the over all look of both boxes. It seems Wargames Factory has upped its game on quality over the past few releases. Glad to see them coming back with force.
If I was to wargame historical it would be from this time period and you got to show me the different houses of Ninjutsu or Ninpo…
that would be a good war game 🙂
