Victrix Mount Up With The Ancient Iberian Cavalry
March 12, 2016 by brennon
Victrix continue to show off what is coming for their Ancients plastic range. The next big unit are the Iberian Cavalry who are in the midst of charging into the massed ranks of the enemy to hopefully break them with a thunderous charge.
I love the epic look of these riders charging forwards with their weapons held high ready to smash aside the enemy. It's always hard to make cavalry look awesome and they more often than not appear out of place but THIS unit looks like it would be great in movement and in combat.
Inside the set you're going to get...
"...three horses and three riders but with lots of head, creast, and arm options so there will be plenty of scope for ensuring every figure and horse looks unique. We will probably sell it in sets of twelve figures"
...and that sounds like an awesome start to an Ancient Iberian army.
What do you think?

those are some awesome dynamic poses – they look like they are really controlling the horses
I wish they did Parthians/Sarmatians
They really get better with every release. This is a great looking unit of charging cavalry.
I think I will need a box of them 😎
Could these find a home in a Carthaginian army under Hannibal?
I remember reading that he had Iberian infantry with him at Cannae but was under the impression that most of his cavalry were Numidian/Berber.
Most definitely by the end of the campaign I can imagine, after failing to march on Rome I wouldn’t be surprised if the elites like the remaining Spaniards took to horse back while they pillaged their way round southern Italy. Be few in number, but if it gave a bit of an umph to a raiding party then sounds entirely feasible.
His initial base was in Spain so he fought with and against them
yeah would be legit to use them – no problem
The level of movement in the models is great. Some of the best I have seen in some time.
nice.
Superb models and good to see horses depicted in the correct contemporary size.
If Victrix produce Celtic warriors in plastic (not a fan of the screaming pooping Warlord ones) then I’ll be very happy.
the Warlord sculpts were great for their time
Ages ago I got a box of Wargames Factory Auxiliary cavalry – wonder could I kit-bash these Iberians into Imperial Era?
These will fit in well with a lot of the armies if the period so to answer your question, yes, I am looking forward to getting these. I alos like the number of figures in the boxes.
