Great Escape Games have opened up pre-orders for the 2nd Edition of Sword & Spear which will be available at the end of November. This is a rules set for playing out both Ancient and Medieval battles and shines when you're looking at multiplayer games...

Sword & Spear 2nd Edition

More on the game rules...

"Sword & Spear is a set of wargames rules for large battles set in the Ancients & Medieval period. They are suitable for any scale figures and any basing standard. The only requirement is that figures are organised into units of equal frontage. A typical game consists of about twelve units on each side and games take around two to three hours.

The rules are designed from a top-down perspective, focusing on outcomes rather than detail."

The game features a dice allocation system which seems similar to the one used in SAGA where a unit moves, shoots and fights all in one go before moving onto the next one. However, there is no direct turn structure so battles appear to flow a bit more naturally on the tabletop.

The rules are also very simple and the designer has said that while to begin with you might need to refer to the play sheet you will eventually be gaming without any aids whatsoever.

I'm interested to hear more on how this plays!
