Early Imperial Romans Coming Next From Victrix
April 4, 2016 by brennon
Victrix have talked about their upcoming project for the Ancient period. They are now going to be tackling Early Imperial Romans starting with this one render to show the direction they are taking with their plastics.
As it stands they have ideas for a unit in active attacking stances as well as marching for when you want that more uniformed look. There will be plenty options within the kit for pilum and swords as well as additional ways in which to create Praetorians.
Additional sets include cavalry, command frames and even artillery pieces like the Scorpion.
The Punic Wars will still be catered for and they will also return to Napoleonics later this year too.
Will you be snapping these up?

I liked Warlord’s first plastic EIRs (and still do) but they somehow became confused scale-wise and the legionaries look like dwarves compared to the Auxilliaries and Gauls.
@lloyd
How about it mate??
@suetoniuspaullinus – They look good, but looking at the site I don’t see much else to get with them to round out an army.
What do you think would work along side these?
It would have been good to see them release some potential adversaries at the same time, especially good Celtic tribesman up to Victrix’s excellent standards.
I hope they do Roman marines with leather breastplates and long hexagonal shields
warlord were brilliant with excellent detail – but yeah the legionaries were squat and went too 90s Warhammer with exaggerated expressions…
Plastic Parthians – that’s what’s needed!
nice figures.
@lloyd Going by what they have done for the Republican Romans this is going to be only the start of a whole new range of EIR era figures and this most certainly will include Auxilia/ Gauls/ Celts/ Germanic tribes/ Dacians and the like. Knowing Steve I am absolutely sure he will see to this 😉 In any case this (whenever their release date is) could be a fantastic opportunity to get into the period big time. Victrix so far has always offered excellent value for money imho and I certainly am looking forward to painting a whole damn legion of… Read more »
@suetoniuspaullinus – if going warlord, do you know what I would need for a nice rounded out Roman army?
Interesting, but could someone more familiar with the history clarify something for me? The Lorica Segmentatum he is wearing, was only in use for a brief period in the 2nd or 3rd centuries, no? While obviously the coolest looking Roman armour, wouldn’t it be more historical for him to be wearing chain mail?
I don’t think it stopped being used until about the 3rd century although these could be scattered frontier units that didn’t have armour and weapons upgraded and re supplied to regularly
