The Command Elements Of Victrix’s Roman Army Come Together
December 1, 2016 by brennon
The Early Roman Army from Victrix has been coming together nicely over the last few weeks and the new Command Elements are now starting to come together for your Legion.
Leading the way we have the Roman Centurion with a variety of different weapon options. He has a number of different weapon options including the vine-stick or vitis which was used to show a Centurion's authority. It meant that they were already ready to dole out punishment to those who crossed them.
Next up we have the Roman Optio who would serve almost as the second in command to the Centurion. They would stand behind the ranked up soldiers making sure to keep order and discipline. Additionally, if the position of Centurion became vacant for whatever reason they would normally be promoted to fill that spot.
Lastly, we have the Musician and we don't need to tell stalwart veterans of the tabletop how vital they can be on the tabletop.
Those horns would send out quite the note across the battlefield. I don't think I'd really want to be holding onto that when I was right in the middle of the fighting but hopefully my fellow soldiers would protect me!
What do you think of the Roman Command element we're seeing here?

I know I am repeating myself but I think this range will be the new EIR benchmark.
Utterly fantastic 😎
Agreed
How do they scale compared to Warlords Romans?
It seems like the Victrix models are slightly taller than the Warlord Romans but not by much. Some folks have talked about it being because of the bases they stand on.
@darthcheese
Warlords EIRs really are 25mm. It’s a great range and made to fit in with Foundry’s EIRs but I think they look like children compared to Victrix’ 28mm Republican Romans.
In fact they do look like children to their own (WG) Auxiliaries. Bit of a blunder but many don’t mind the difference in size and it is still a good range of plastics and metals.
Personally I prefer consistency sizewise.
to be honest I have mixed a few warlord plastics with the foundry metals and they only match because of the huge plug they stand on, once that comes off they’re shorter than the Perry’s metals. Thankfully I’m almost finished my Romans I won’t need to dip my toe into these regardless, but it is nice to see more variety for the period
great looking roman troops.
I can’t wait for the entire Victrix EIR line to be released. I’ve already got plans for Broken Legions and Wierd War Rome. I might even give Hail Caesar a go finally.
@lloyd these have your name all over them.
@lloyd
What he said!! 😉
@stvitusdancern @suetoniuspaullinus – they do look super!
Very nice!
Thwow him to the floahr, Centuwion!
Aye, Warlord legionaries are a bit ‘dwarfish’ and their expressions and stances are ‘full-battle’. I might mix parts from the two ranges together.
Look at that Centurion – any one of those models would look great in a historical diorama 🙂
