Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire Website Goes Live
September 29, 2017 by brennon
The website for the new game, Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire, has gone live this week and gives you a look into the game and its various factions.
The game will be hitting pre-orders on October 14th over on the Games Workshop website as an additional way for you to play out battles in Age Of Sigmar. The game's focus is on tactical combat between a handful of miniatures using options presented to you on their unit cards and what you bring together as part of your deck.
Each of the warbands plays into different strengths as represented here...
In this way, you'll be able to hopefully draw on the strengths of your warband and then make sure to exploit the weaknesses of the others. You can find out more about the factions and how they work over on their website where they go into detail about each of them HERE.
In addition, the team have explained more about the dark city of Shadespire itself giving you an idea as to the locations you'll be fighting over on the tabletop HERE.
Painting Tutorials
Last but not least we also have four painting tutorials where they show off how to paint up each of the warbands.
Steelheart's Champions
Garrek's Reavers
Sepulchral Guard
Ironskull's Boyz
Maybe this will be the thing that inspires you to choose one faction over another!
Watch out for more from us on this game as we have some videos lined up to show you how the game plays.
Stay tuned!

Looks like a fun game!
so glad you fellas mentioned the art. feel that way about most of cover art for age of sigmar but haven’t said anything because I didn’t want to upset anyone. I understand the art direction and the overall image they are trying to convey. the sanitization of age of sigmar and 40k is certainly the result of comity meetings about demographics. funny thing is the gritty art of old hammer, rogue trader and 2000AD was one of the most evocative things to me as a young lad in the 80’s. to be fair to GW the horus heresy stuff stays… Read more »
I would say that the artwork on the whole for Age of Sigmar has been pretty awesome. A lot of the artwork from inside the books is superb and still has a powerful ‘meat’ to it with plenty of grit through in too.
It just seems like a lot of the cover art doesn’t follow the same art direction.
A lot of that art worked- but it rarely worked as cover art.
I’m remembering the 2nd ed and 3rd ed 40k covers. Really, Blanche worked best when he used colors sparingly, but they always wanted bright primary colors for their cover art, and it ended up looking like a total mess rather than brilliantly messy art.
2nd ed didn’t come out till 1994. The Battle Manual was already heading in that art direction, though. The stuff that Ackland, Miller, and Blanche were doing in the 80s was a massive part of the appeal for me at the time.
I’m in for the sepulchral guard at least, been waiting impatiently since the first teasers. Fingers crossed for skaven and lizardmen bands.
The game isn’t really my thing, but I get why they wanted to have a “game in box” sort of skirmish experience. That being said, the artwork on the cover is bland even for Stormcast (and I have a SC army, so it’s not bias talking).
that’s one heroic jawline right there!
I think I will get this. I like the idea of a self contained, quick and tactical board game with GW miniatures and a bit of deck building. Seems as if they’re making a conscious effort to appeal to a different section of competitive gamers with this, and the choice of cover art is part of that.
Will have a proper look later, really not seeing what makes this the ultimate competitive game or even a decent competitive game. Minis are nice but if I am playing a small model count arena game I want them to be stunning, interesting character pieces. Also compated to x-wing which it will be price point seems off. Still if chance arises will give it a trial and see.
Doesn’t seem off to me. Star Wars X-Wing is currently retailing at £31.99 in Element Games. That gets you three (albeit painted) miniatures. Shadespire is rumoured to be £40 (£30 if you assume a 25% discount at places like element, Wayland etc) and comes with 8 miniatures. I think the price, compared to X-Wing, seems pretty competitive l.
25% is very unlikely, 20% on pre-order more likely. I will be honest I haven’t done a recent price check on x-wing brexit pound weakening is a thing for ffg. I still feel that 3 pre-paints are more attractive for this style of game.
I think this looks great, it is more or less what I have hoped that GW would do! I hope I will get to test it in Essen Spiel… 🙂
I quick look at the QSR has got me intriuged as a way of getting my young son into gaming.
It’s interesting to see they have done an undead team given they haven’t had any new minis. I wonder if more releases in this game will reflect in actual AoS ranges.
The first 5 warbands will be
Stormcast Eternal (in the box)
Khorne Bloodbound (in the box)
Death/Undead
Orruks
Fyreslayers
Skaven
Mate that’s six … I know this as I learned numbers last week and i am very proud of myself .
(Yeah I know it was a typo , but it is a rare occasion when I can can be unequivocally right and I took it …………… *sigh ……. I’m so pathetic …….)
I’ve already preordered the base game and first two “team” expansions at my local independent retailer. I tried it at GenCon and it was a decent game. The main reason I’m interested though is I hope they print full AoS warscrolls for the minis. I have not had any luck getting my friends into miniature war games and I think these miniatures might be good entry points to AoS skirmish since they won’t have to do much building or painting.
I do quite like the look of this but may hold off until they release the fyreslayer team later in the year/early next year… November and December have already blown a hole in the hobby budget. Do like the concept of the game. A friend of a friend played it at one of the US cons and, according to my mate he can’t stop raving about it.
I’m incredibly excited about this game. I love skirmish games and board games with cool minis, so this is right up my street. Although I’m generally not a fan of the AoS Khorne stuff, the different warbands for this game look so good I’m tempted to pick them all up.
Love the look of the game. Gameplay seems fun and fast. Wish it were any two factions other than Khorne vs Stormcast in the box though.
