Warhammer Underworlds Goes Online
April 27, 2019 by dracs
Games Workshop and Steel Sky Productions have announced that they are partnering to create a new online adaptation of Warhammer Underworlds, taking the game online.
The game promises to be a faithful adaptation of the tournament focused miniatures game, seeing you control warbands through the cursed city of Shadespire, building decks, and engaging in tactical board-game hybrid combat.
Steel Sky Productions are eager to get the Warhammer Underworlds community involved with the game as soon as possible and so have opted for Early Access development. Early Access means that you’ll be able to play the game sooner and you’ll be able to experience new features as they are added. They will also be taking feedback during this Early Access cycle so you’ll have the opportunity to get your voice heard and to help ensure that Warhammer Underworlds: Online is the game that players want. - Warhammer Community
So far, the only footage we have seen is in the form of this teaser trailer, showing a group of Stormcast Eternals walking through the eerie streets of Shadespire.
Even from this brief glimpse, we can see that the game will be dripping with atmosphere. One of my problems with Warhammer Underworlds has always been that it is played across a two-dimensional board, not giving you much of a feel for its setting.
Some of us in the office recently got into Warhammer Underworld (no, Ryan still hasn't built his skeletons), so this announcement is especially well timed from where we're standing, giving us the opportunity to get in some practice and try our hand at different strategies.
Wishlisting for the game is currently available on Steam.
Which warband will you take into Shadespire?

Will be interesting to see how this develops and how popular it gets.
It’s made for online really, glad to see this happening.
the graphics are looking fantastic.
I cannot say I am a fan of a board or tabletop game being very accurately made into a computer game or being 90% similar or thereabouts. Kind of invalidates the whole point of boardgames. Thats just my opinion though.
Also this kind of wants me to play a shadespire without the tiles and with a whole proper supported set of terrain for it 🙂
