Vampire Lords Of The Soulblight Revealed For Age Of Sigmar
May 4, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop's Soul Wars might be coming to an end in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar but that doesn't mean that the Shyish Nadir hasn't finished giving out its dark gifts. The Soulblight Gravelords are more powerful than ever and new aristocracies of the night are looking to stake (hah) their claim on The Mortal Realms.

There are some absolutely monstrous-looking vampires coming to the tabletop to lead the forces of Death into battle. If you're a fan of the old Vampire Counts from Warhammer Fantasy Battles then I could see you very much enjoying this faction. Not only does it have flavours of The Old World but Games Workshop have given things their typical Mortal Realms twist.
Lauka Vai // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
One such reveal was for the body horror themed new lords and ladies that will be taking to the tabletop. Lauka Vai here is a member of the Avengorii dynasty and she crawls and twists her way into battle at the head of an army of twisted beasts and monsters.
Their vampiric line is one where their bodies have been warped and changed by their feral hunger and they are now part drake and part humanoid. Despite their bestial appearance, the Avengorii still retain much of their knightly heritage and see themselves as darkly noble warrior kings and queens. You get the same sense of that in the Vengorian Lord.
Vengorian Lord // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
As you might have guessed, the kit that made Lauka Vai can also be used to make this Vengorian Lord. So, you can either go with a special character or a regular lord to lead your armies on the tabletop. Despite some initial misgivings about the style of these new vampires, I think they look pretty darn awesome!
Legacy Of The Wolf
As well as those new lords and ladies, we also got a look at how Radukar has fared since being banished from The Cursed City. Radukar is back and more angry than ever as Radukar The Beast.
Radukar The Beast // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
As you can see, he has been somewhat consumed by his furious rage and thirst for blood and now stands at the head of armies of ravenous vampires that stalk the night. I really like the addition of werewolf qualities to this particular miniature and it works as a nice alternative option if you're not fussed by the aristocratic theme.
Sticking with the theme of wolves, we also have Belladama Volga here. She might look like an old lady but she is very capable of slicing foes in two.
Belladama Volga // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Much like Radukar, there is a more bestial theme to her sculpt and she can command the might of wolves and other creatures on the tabletop. I really like that we're getting a little bit of Kislev slipping through into The Mortal Realms with these miniatures. You could imagine them wandering the frozen north of The Old World.
We also finally got an update for the Direwolves that you'll be able to add into your Soulblight Gravelords army.
Direwolves // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Direwolves have been a staple of many a vampiric army throughout the years and it seems apt that they would get a proper Mortal Realms update after many years of service. I much prefer this look rather than the fleshy sacks of muscle we've currently got.

There are plenty of additional releases coming soon too as we've seen in earlier previews. You're going to have new Deadwalker Zombies, Deathrattle Skeletons and you'll no doubt have seen the big bats at the rear of this image!
Are you going to be starting an undead army for Age Of Sigmar?

I want to like the centaur vampires. The idea is interesting and new. However, I just can not do it. They are just so horrible. Why would you put a tall model like that on the highest “stone” you could design. Just so it could tower over your army and stand out? Its going to through off the entire look of the whole army. From fantasy logic point of view… How does that thing look flying? Or running? Or just trying to fit in a room? Is this a new species? Or just some kind of ritual shapeshifting? Cause if… Read more »
I guarantee you they were separate models then some idiot at the top of GW came along and said to merge them because it’s “cool and unique”. That;s why they are so jarring and don’t come off as organic (it’s not just the paint job).
Sad because the sculpt and detail is incredible for a plastic model.
Well they do use computer modeling to make all of the models now days. Perhaps a computer virus corrupted and merged to different files together, and some didn’t want to fix the problem so they just passed it up the chain expecting it to be some one else’s problem.
I will admit I am a bit jaded, but we all know why they keep pushing all these new weird creatures… its because they unique and make it very hard for 3d party companies to produce proxies.
I do really like the Dire Wolves, Radukar and Belladama but I’m not sure on those other vampires.
They really look just if you have glued a vampire upper body and that dragon thing, worse even the vampire body seems to be where the other creature would have it’s head. If the vampire body was lower and the hands/wing were more to the back it would look much better.
Strong agree with the other comments here – I want to like those vampires but the proportions are so far off.
I will get the kit, but will somehow make two vampires with the upper halves, and then put my spare Mindstealer Sphiranx head on the lower winged body.
To quote the Greatest Movie ever MAde:
“This hoe is so ugly, she can scare a hungry bulldog off the back of a meat truck.”
Is that you Petey???
Why yes, yes it is.
imagine having the Devil as your father in law!?!
Ooh nice love the dragon centaur.
Those things have 2 waists! That makes them look bizarre and unworkable, might have looked better if there wasn’t a visible second waist that is also shoulders!?!?!
Kinda… dare I say it, like a beast has stuck its head up a vampires’ jacksey, and the Vangorian Lord was certainly taken by surprise
The soulblights centaur things are a good example of when you drop 2 different miniatures on the floor, and then someone distracts you as you are about to glue them back together, and you end up glueing the wrong parts together.
Ignoring the expected fanbase bitching over “buh, something new that I don’t like,” it’s actually kinda cool to see GW branching out into new concepts for vampires apart from the usual Dracula/Nosferatu count archetype. If you look at vampire stories from all over the world, you have some seriously bizarre concepts, like flying heads and collections of entrails that suck the blood from pregnant women and infants, to women who have entire giant leeches for stomachs, to horrible red-skinned gremlins. It’s nice to finally see a miniatures company exploring just how weird the mostly vanilla concept of “vampire” can get!
I do know what you mean – and I love the idea of bestial, multi-limbed vampires. I just feel these (while very detailed and technically complex) miss the mark slightly.
No worries, as it’s equally as easy to ignore all the expected fanboys coming out to defend and dismiss all of the real and valid criticisms of others.
Its just a comments section after all, for you know… comments.
But hey, if you still feel the need to continue to drop shade on the community at any opportunity you can… then by all means you do you.
I’m not dismissing valid and real criticisms, I totally accept them. If it’s something constructive like “the model could have been improved by melding the waist more seamlessly” like wrusher said, then that’s okay. If it’s “it looks like two models got dropped on the floor,” then it’s whining.
It all comes to opinions. The moment you tag “fanboys” the ones that does not share your point of view…well, it really seems like you are putting their judgement below yours (and by that I don’t mean you actually do, but it feels like).
Oh, and you’ve done that several times, because I remember always disagreeing with you xD
What ever you got to tell yourself, to sleep at night. The fact is members here on this website are dropping shade and “bitching” (as you say) about a non-entity multi-million dollar Corporation. You on the other hand are routinely taking time to go out of your way to make sure to poke fun, attack, dismiss, or try to “shame” real people that are part of this community. Simply cause their opinions are in your opinion “whining”. See the difference there. But hey, it is a comments section after all. So you do you. Just understand people notice this sort… Read more »
You still claim to be a part of the GW community when I have yet to see a single painted or even assembled model from you in all the years you’ve been active on this website, spending YOUR time throwing shade on others. As andreuac7 just put it, you see yourself as high and mighty because you “don’t take the GW red pill” and insult others who actually like their products. If you’ve read anything that I’ve written, you’d know that I’m not a “GW fanboy” as you put it, as while I do like some of their products, I… Read more »
LMAO… You literally are calling me out for not having posted any hobby content, like that some how doesn’t class me on equal terms with some one who has posted (like yourself). And Then you turn around and accuse me of being elitist? LMAO… oh wow. Just… wow. Oh, yeah… I had completely forgotten about the Kharadron Overlords spat we had. That was ages ago. Not even sure what was said anymore. I’m surprised you remember that. No worries. I will go on voicing my opinions. You go on doing your thing. It was a mistake to point out that… Read more »
I really thought Soulblight were the release to keep me from waiting for the new Warhammer Fantasy. They didn’t though.
It is my greatest fear that my neighbor, who I have only seen from the shoulders up as I talk to him over the fence, is in fact a centaur. That vampire centaur has only compounded my fears. Thank you GW, my neighbor is now a potentially monstrous Mr Wilson…
that’s brilliant!
After such a strong show with their Vampire counts I couldn’t possibly imagine they would mess it up and yet here we are. How can they possibly drop the ball? … super easy it seems: crazy vampire lords/varghulf hybrid (seems highly likely these were separate kits.. plastic varghulfs! but someone had the “great” idea of combining them in CAD…) … an unnecessary Radukar The Beast model which could probably have been released for any faction… and a granny vampire riding a wolf. Such genius… The worse thing is you can tell things were made on the spare of the moment,… Read more »
My theory is that this version of Radukar was destined for an expansion pack to cursed city. You defeat him and returns bigger and badder.
Now that cursed city is no longer a thing, I believe they are just reworking the packaging and selling him this way.
Just a theory.
A pretty sound theory.
Those look really good and are very creative as well.
I really love this models. I love the fact some people hate Lauka Vai models. The AOS team are brave they make models you either love or hate but that is better than not caring. The sisters of battle 40k releases I lost interest about half way through it is just not that exciting. The models are good but they are not that different to grey knight versions of it. These AOS vampires are just amazing I am already wondering what is the lore behind them, are they vmapires half transformed, is Radukar from a different vampire blood line we… Read more »
I hadn’t noticed the 2 waist thing, now I cannot unsee it!
Although I still like these.
Defo agree that Radukar was probably meant as an expansion piece, although apparently there is a bit in this month’s or next months White Dwarf that mentioned Cursed City – so perhaps its not totally dead.
After the excellent vampires they’ve been putting out lately, I have to say these are a real disappointment. If they had made full human (er, vampire?) versions of Lauka and Vengorian I would have got them both because I think the top half looks great, but attaching it to a Wyvern body or whatever that’s supposed to be just totally ruins it. Yech! And “Belladama Volga”? Talk about your lazy naming. What’s next, “Buonadama Danube”? “Belladama” is Italian/Latin. Wrong geographical area. Oh, but I forgot Sylvania has been trashed in favour of… whatever incomprehensible AoS lore they’ve dreamed up this… Read more »
Temper your expectations.
Don’t get to invested in the old world until you see it. I have a feeling it wont exactly be the same as it was. Which could be great. Or it not.
I feel the same as several others who’ve commented here. The two upper parts are great. The lower parts don’t look right. I’m not against the concept of a funky vargulf centaur vampire but I don’t like the execution in this case. The upper parts on a human-vampire lower body styled the same way would be awesome. To me. I like the dire wolves. The old kit was horrible. I converted chaos hounds and have also been watching for some good, mean-looking printable wolves to use instead as the old ones just weren’t worth the effort to paint. The new… Read more »
