Slaanesh Makes A Return This Weekend For Age Of Sigmar
April 23, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop will be bringing back an imprisoned god this weekend with pre-orders going live for the new Hedonites Of Slaanesh Battletome and much more in Age Of Sigmar.
Above you can see the Limited Edition version of the book which comes with full artwork on the front cover, crafted to fit into your array of books very nicely indeed. Essentially the book is entirely the same otherwise but if you're a big lover of Slaanesh (as many of its followers are) then this might be a good shout.
The book will come alongside a range of new cards for the new units available to you in a Slaaneshi force plus other accessories too.
The Prince Of Darkness
As we've already seen, Games Workshop has gifted the followers of Slaanesh a new Keeper Of Secrets for you to enjoy. This proud and elegant looking incarnation of Slaanesh's will on the battlefield is a good antithesis to the other howling and gnashing Greater Daemons, really playing into Slaanesh's character.
However, this kit also makes a named character for you to throw into the mix. Many of the Greater Daemons have grown in power and infamy throughout the Mortal Realms, earning themselves monikers like Shalaxi Helbane here.
This named character will give added nuance to your force as you could potentially completely theme an army around Helbane. I feel like he has a lot of the trappings of an old character from Warhammer Fantasy, Sigvald The Magnificent. Maybe if you switched the spear out for a sword you could make him the daemonic incarnation of him for Age Of Sigmar?
You'll find that he will be usable in both Age Of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 too so he can do some travelling through The Eye Of Terror!
Extravagant Followers
As well as the Keeper Of Secrets we'll meet more characters from the Hedonites army including the Masque, bringing their own brand of terror to the tabletop once more.
I'm particularly excited about this fellow though. I don't think we've had a proper look at exactly what that towering fellow can do but I love the idea!
I could imagine him wading in, smashing aside his foes with that massive axe whilst the rider on top forces him forward and whips prey nearer to his reaping axe. As I've mentioned before there's something of the 300 Persian-style about him which could be an interesting angle to take.
This seems like a cool bit of kit for the Hedonites too...whatever it does!
I can sense from the revelry that those Daemonettes are engaged in that it's fascinating at the very least. Something tells me you shouldn't look into that mirror...for any reason what-so-ever.
Overall, it's a good time to be a fan of Slaanesh. It's really good to see Games Workshop taking a grown-up approach to this army, not just filling it with boobs for the sake of it. I much prefer this mature take, offering up a beautiful and satisfying army for those that want to challenge their painting skills.
What do you think?

First to look upon this and say I definitely will need to keep my wallet on a leash (and beat it occasionally as a morale booster).
As this is a Slaaneshi release, hope your wallet’s not into BDSM then.
?
Well, it IS leather so I think I need to be mindful.
Excellent models, again GW goes from strength to strength!
While I understand that those are not for everyone’s taste (as is case with all GW sculpts) I do really like those.
I honestly feel like these are some of GW’s best releases.
While Slaanesh seems to have been ignored (perhaps for too long) these might bring him/her/it back.
Mirror, Mirror, on the …strangely ululating and oddly fascinating metallic tentacles…
I feel that, among all greater demons, the Keeper of Secrets has gone through the most varied of incarnations.
If you put the original Great Unclean One next to the late ’90s update, the Forge World kit and the current plastic kit, I feel that you could draw enough parallels to recognize that they all represent the same being. The same goes for the Lord of Change and Bloodthirster.
But I don’t think that’s true of the Keeper of Secrets. There are a few elements that they kept, but he/she/it has really gone through a lot of changes.
I think that is because they didn’t have a good theme for this army beyond ‘demons with extra boobies’
This feels like a complete reboot of the army, which probably was needed.
I think the design choice made gives the army an unique style. However I wouldn’t call it ‘mature’. It simply is a variant that is easier to market, because it doesn’t scream ‘sex’ like that other aspect of Slaanesh would have. I’d love to see a Slaanesh themed army that embraced the unsanitized version of this demon. And I’d want this for the same reason I’d want a Nurgle themed army that wasn’t so obsessed with zombies and rot. Chaos is a haven for the corrupt and it would be nice to see armies that embrace these aspects in something… Read more »
Most of the time, nudity on miniatures seems kind of juvenile. At least that’s the way I feel about some of the previous incarnations of Slaaneshi stuff.
to be fair, I honestly don’t think that actual mature themes fit very well into GW’s over the top grim dark setting.
