Ride Out With New Stormcast Eternal Vanguard-Palladors
February 20, 2017 by brennon
Riding out for the Stormcast Eternal as their spearhead and scouting force we have the new Vanguard-Palladors and the Lord-Aquilor for Age Of Sigmar from the folks at Games Workshop.
The Vanguard-Palladors join the Vanguard Hunters at the head of the army riding atop Gryph-Chargers. These lithe and rather awesome looking mounts look ten times better than the Dracoths we saw for the Stormcast Eternals a while back. I think the sculpts look fantastic and the idea of them bounding across the tabletop is rather epic.
Here's more about these wild riders...
"The Vanguard-Palladors of the Vanguard Chambers are without doubt the fastest ground elements of the Stormhosts. By transmuting into wind-borne lightning atop their Gryph-chargers, they can ride the celestial hurricane to circumvent the enemy army’s defences, before reassuming their corporeal forms to strike at the foe’s exposed throat with bolt, javelin, axe and claw."
These riders can be armed with a few different weapons including the Boltstorm Pistol, Starstrike Javelins, Shock Handaxes, and of course the snarling Gryph-Charges can rip and tear too.
The Lunar Blade of the Pallador-Prime can be used to dish out some nasty mortal wounds and the aethereal strikes of the Gryph-Chargers can also do the same if they get sixes when they roll! They can also leap across the tabletop using the Winds Aetheric which means they can reposition easily.
Lord-Aquilor
Leading the way for this particular section of the Stormcast Eternal army we have the Commanders of the Vanguard Auxiliary Chambers, the Lord-Aquilor.
You can put this character together in a few different ways with the others giving you the options for a variety of weapons and a choice of head too. While I do like the masks of the Stormcast Eternals I think the bare head is rather awesome.
I think that if you used as many bare heads in your collection for the Vanguard it would mark them out as different amongst your army and provide a nice contrast.
Slambo Returns
As a bit of a different twist on things the world of Age of Sigmar also welcomes the return of the Chaos Warrior known as Slambo.
This chap might be familiar to those who collected Chaos many moons ago. I actually have a copy of him somewhere in my rather vast collection of dusty old Warhammer miniatures.
He actually comes with a Warscroll with rules for Age of Sigmar and when you get him you'll also have points for matched play too.
What do you think of these new releases?

Slambo is awesome. He always was. The AoS stuff looks good as well.
These I like. I’d replace the fat riders, but the mounts are nice.
The single, not so much. The demi-gryph still has that odd breastplate with the hanging thingies sticking out at an angle. Also, it should be strapped around his neck. Otherwise there’s nothing stopping it from falling to his elbows!
That bottom model is just another chubber. Hard to take a physique like that seriously.
I take exception to your last comment. He has the same physique as me. 😀
Slambo! – the badest metal mini I used in Heroquest 🙂
Looks like he has got middle-aged and fat 🙁
Look at those monster-mounts they look like the scariest thing in my 1980s childhood – Hooked Horrors!
Ugh, so ugly.
I think much of GW’s recent plastics have struggled to capture any dynamism in the poses, the mounts here do a good job of it.
And Slambo does an amazing job of capturing the almost 2D poses of the olden days.
Maybe there is a Slambo backstory… after years as a dungeon henchman he became a Tavern Landlord accounting for the new Kryten look 🙂
I am still buying the kit – he is the best character ever!!!
The mounts I greatly like it’s just a shame about the riders; they needed less / lighter armour or riders from another faction (whoever the empire is now or some kind of elf).
Im not a big fan of Stormcast Eternals but these mounts and riders I think are fantastic. The movement put across in those figures is very good IMO
The stormcast guys are the best looking of that range so far. Most stormcast look rather stiff but this adds so much more life to that faction.
The sheer dynamism in the mounts is terrific the dracoths would have benefited from a bit more of this. I love the the Lord Aquilor
Chocobos!
Slambo and those mounts are good but those riders are same old that we have seen so many times before.
the figures look good especially the chargers.
when’s the AoS national game coming out.
I’m loving those Vanguard-Palladors. Can’t wait to paint up a set. Just got to work out a good animal colour scheme.
Slambo is so cool. I remember the original way back in the ’80s
