Games Day 2011… Phil Kelly chats about Dreadfleet
September 25, 2011 by lloyd
Phil Kelly is at Games Day today giving people a hands on look at Dreadfleet with loads of demo games.
It looks cool I especially like the size of the playing mat which is 3.5 X 5 feet! At that size I'm going to use it for more than just Dreadfleet.

Ships look larger than I expected.
Feeling better about ordering one for the Tor Gaming office.
I think this new GW presenter is doing a good Job, but the BoW guys are soo much better. So what if the guy has a good vocabulary…he seems to completely lack a real personality. Just another way that GW can control how information gets disseminated.
Personally, I would have loved to see Lloyd show up….push past Phil Kelly….jump up an on the table and start challenging people to honorable naval combat.
Oh yeah….and the game does look fun….Narrative campaigns are always a buzz.
My take on the GW media guy is this. Could you find someone shorter? They can barley keep everyone he interviews in the shot.
It is so that everyone can see that GW employees are giants of their time.
You called for someone shorter?
Dread fleet will not work. All decent pirate exploitation there must be cleavage. Where is it in this?
You’re on the internet, just type it into your google machine and print out some cleavage to attach to your Dreadfleet rulebook – simple 😉
I like the joke that Phil Kelly makes about web. And the media guy is a kid most that start playing the game are kids.
I feel alienated As a 6’3″ bearded middle aged chap GW is obviously not intended for me What baffled me is the comment by the dude at the end of the video. He is at a games show hosted by the makers of Dread Fleet and really liked the game bt has to go home to pre order Unless he ran out of cash, why would he not be able to pre order directly from GW They could have sold signed copies with PK at the event Still no need to worry according to GW they have nearly sold out… Read more »
They’ll probably find a whole warehouse of these conveniently “forgotten” about …
They will have divided their print run between their different regions and outlets (net, mail order, shops, etc). “Finding” extra copies is most likely to be one region having more than they need and it being shifted internally to a region that has sold out. It would be a real pain to actually go back to China and reprint, not to mention the fact that it takes 3 months to get here once it’s actually in a container on a ship. It really is a slow boat from China 🙂

A much better vid from GW- why not keep the game secret till today then launch it with this video, the blog entry and the better 2nd youtube trailer?? More excitement and less of the old farts moaning re GW. Plus a 7 day preorder window before the game goes live next weekend. Looks a lot better than first impression now they actually giving us a proper look at it.
Oh well off to have a moan re GW now
😉
Apparently the latest WD is being held back until next week to keep the Dread Fleet a secret even though they have announced it already and are taking pre orders
I asked a lad who I thought would be interested in DF and he hadn’t a clue about it!
Am very confused about the way it is being handled and am also off to have a moan re GW now lol
@ chibi – the guy at the end of the video obviously didn’t see the large banks of PC’s available in the store area of Games Day where you COULD pre-order dreadfleet on the day. He didn’t have to go home at all!
Thanks
I assumed there would be points of sale at the show where orders could have been taken
But I guess if they are busy selling kits it would be an inconvenience hence the PC’s
Still, maybe a missed opportunity if some people didn’t realise they could order via the terminals
Computers in the sales area?
How did that work?
If you mean computers set up so you could go onto GW website and order stuff yourself, no wonder he went home, only mr inaniac of insanesville , insaneland on a course of happy pills would internet shop on a publicly accessible computer.
If you mean they had what used to be called mail order trolls on site doing orders for you , then thats different, and sensible.
@ well everyone!
The presenter is a regular retail member of staff from Warhammer World.
So yeah for no one with no media training he’s doing fine.
The lad in the background from 5:36 on wards is me, i was trying to get close and have a word with the presenter and see if he’d like public feedback, No dice i’m afraid.
