Games Workshop is lining up a long-awaited miniature for pre-order this weekend. The new plastic version of Eomer is going to be hitting the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game and fighting to free Rohan from the grip of Saruman and his Uruk-Hai.

This new version of Eomer comes with a lot more options compared to your standard plastic kit from Games Workshop, especially for a character. You get a number of different heads, weapon options and ways in which to pose said weapons when it comes to building the miniature. I also reckon there should be some hat-tipping considering the detail they've managed to work into the character this time around.

One of the things I was worried about with the sculpt was that it wasn't going to match the proportions of some of the older miniatures in the range. However, from looking at some of the battle shots that Games Workshop released this week, it isn't a bad match.

As well as the mounted version of the character that you're seeing here, you will also get the character on foot so that you can use him to defend his lands with sword and shield, toe-to-toe with the Uruk-Hai. I still stand by the fact that they haven't really bothered to make the miniature look like Karl Urban here. Whilst some of the new plastic miniatures are very inline with their movie counterparts, it appears that Eomer has drifted away from his onscreen likeness.

It seems like it won't be long before more Middle-earth hits the tabletop. As well as Eomer you've also got The Quest For The Ringbearer book on the way and hopefully a few more characters to help bulk up the range and/or improve upon some of the old sculpts.

The Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game is still one that hits all the right notes for me. I love that it can be played as a battle game or with individual characters, a group of friends and plenty of narrative elements. I still can't wait to try and (one day) play through all of the scenarios from the films/books with beautiful terrain and a fully painted host of miniatures.

Are you still a fan of this game?
