New Age Of Sigmar Starter Sets To Get You Into Warhammer
July 13, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop has shown off the three new Starter Sets and more than you can use to get started in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. There are a few different ways of diving into The Mortal Realms in line with what they've done in previous years for both Age Of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000.

The first of the boxes is the Warrior Starter Set. This comes with a Knight-Arcanum leading five Vindictors into battle. On the other side, you've got a Killaboss alongside his Stab-grot assistant and ten Gutrippaz. You also get dice, range rulers, warscrolls and the rules that you need to play the game.
The next step up is the Harbinger Starter Set which comes with a few more miniatures.

This set comes with five Vindictors, three Praetors and the Lord-Imperatant with faithful Gryph-hound. They will find themselves going up against ten Gutrippaz and ten Hobgrot Slittaz. Those dangerous Kruleboyz will then be watched over by the Swampcalla Shaman and a Pot-grot!
The nice thing about this is that it adds to the options in the Warrior Starter Set. So, if you want to level up with just a few more bits and bobs then this might not be a bad shout.
Finally, they have the Extremis Starter Set and this is the big one.

This set features the miniatures from the previous set but you also get a double-sided gaming board over a card gaming mat and that plastic scenery. There is a Nexus Syphon, Guardian Idol, two Domicile Shells and loads of pillars. This gives you the beginnings of a city being constructed by the forces of Order.
Not a bad selection of Starter Sets to get you going in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. I am tempted to just pick up the Warrior one so I can paint a few miniatures and have a go at the game. I'm not interested in another big pile of plastic.

There are also three different Paint Sets that you'll be able to pick up from Games Workshop soon too.
Paint & Tool Set // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The first is the Paint & Tool Set which comes with a set of clippers, a brush, a file and all the colours you need to paint your Stormcast Eternals and Kruleboyz. You can then get more specific if you like with a pack for the Vindictors...

...and a pack for the Gutrippaz too. Each set comes with full paint pots from the Citadel range and looks like a nice place to start. It should be easy to follow the steps and paint up a neat army of either Order or Destruction.

Whilst Dominion was very much there as the BIG way to dive into the new edition of the game, these sets look like a good way to get more people involved. I can see a lot of folks snapping up the smaller starter sets for families and kids for example.
Make sure to keep an eye out for the release of these new sets in the coming weeks...

Those paint sets are usually a cheap-ish way to get started with citadel paints, but I notice they are not including any contrast paints in the sets.
May get the cheapest starter box for a copy of the Core Rules and some of the minis are nice… oddly the Knight Arcanum seems to be only in the smallest box. The bigger boxes don’t appeal to me as I already a plenty of stormcast from Soul Wars box and I’m not planning an ork army. Some of the terrain in Extremis looks ok, but I can’t justify the expense.
I’m sure GW will have a box with that terrain ‘soon’.
It’s kind of what they did for the previous 9th edition 40k release.
Great looking figures an the paint set’s are a Great way to get the figures painted up.
All of the paints, save one, in the new orks paint set are ones I already use. I might just pick that one up to have some spare paints, and the Gutrippaz will be a nice little bonus project!
Looking at it again… the Stormcast one would work similarly for me as I use a lot of those colours myself. Depends what the retail price is and the two minis would always serve for Soul Wars (should I ever play it) or Soulbound RPG.
Those are not bad looking starter sets and it’s always nice to have options for starting new system.
