Morathi Arrives This Week Ahead Of A New Age Of Sigmar Army
February 19, 2018 by brennon
Morathi will be coming to the tabletop alongside the release of the new Daughters Of Khaine book this weekend for the world of Age Of Sigmar. Games Workshop teased the images of her in two different forms, both of which will be needed on the tabletop.
You can see her here as Queen Morathi, resplendent with her golden wings, tipped with blood as only befits a Daughter of Khaine. She looks commanding and dangerous and this is one of the times where I actually don't mind this more static pose for a character model.
This is mainly because there is also this version of her. See how Morathi looks when transformed...
You can see how the scale works for this particular model if you check out the video above, but she looks like she has crawled out a nightmarish Greek myth. I really like how they've maintained a similar look to the wings as she had in their golden form and the addition of the snakes slithering out from her headdress.
Khainite Accessories
A new Battletome is on the way for the Daughters Of Khaine as you might imagine as well as the usual array of gubbins and trinkets for fans to help add some personality to their force. For example, you'll be able to pick up these dice...
The designs look quite nice within the set and, as mentioned above if you really like the idea of adding to your force with some more personalised items this is the way to go.
What do you think of the new version of Morathi?

Love the body and wings of the beast form. Nice use of terrain to allow for a more interesting pose. Very
Not a fan of the other model as the blood drips look way to uniform to be natural and wish see did not have a gaming hole in her armour around one of the most squshy bits of your body. It’s also such a boring pose compared to the other.
Back to positive, there is only one skull between them!!! I am sick of skulls on models.
I believe the word you were looking for is ‘gaping’.
I also suspect that to @brennon “she looks like she has crawled out [ of ] a nightmarish Greek myth”.
Got to love auto correct.
In think it is a gaming hole… artists like their females to have holes in armour.
A gaming hole? Now that’s something else entirely. 🙂
Well I have certainly enjoyed playing with some holes ……. sorry, old deviant
Actually, the *important* squishy gaming hole pieces seem pretty protected to me.
Even more that’s the only area with any protection to speak of on her. And far too much for a girl with a delicate history with the prince of pleasures like her… That is so twisted.
Love the Medusa looking version the best.
I think the first model might actually look better without the wings – they are a bit too thick (though would no doubt break in a heartbeat if they were thinner) and the blood on them makes them look too cartoony IMHO. However, when considered as a set of figures.. wow.
I like the snake version…but it looks frigging huge.
Finally I might be lured into AoS.
Both versions so look really good and in her snake form she is one big mom.
Smaller model is alright, big beastie is bloody stunning. Want to see a Fulgrim mini now. AoS does have some great looking armies, shame the rules don’t sit with me. Well not for the wallet.
Not played Warhammer Fantasy battles since 2nd edition, but I loved the Old World when I was playing WFRP and the Enemy Within, so I was one of many that felt destroying the setting was a terrible idea.
However, that is an awesome monster pose that I’m afraid my painting skills may not be up to.
Although I can’t justify buying into sigmar wargaming, I may consider the miniature as an adversary when Cubicle 7 releases the new edition of Old World Warhammer RPG.
Man enemy within I love that campaign, never finished it, even with a group that ran for 3 years – I blame death on the reik and boat based fun.
Did you even pick up dying of the light from hogshead? That was stunning. Still want to run the thousand thrones from 2nd edition.
Her monstrous form is quite possibly the best model GW have ever come up with.
Finally, a good model out of GW. Do you have to buy both? I’m not a fan of the first one.
They’re a set. She can change form during the game
Give me a good rules set and I’ll care about that.
I’m not really asking whether anyone cares. Just explaining why they’re a set – you need both in order to use them in the game
A shame. I would have used the beastie version as some sort of drow centerpiece, but I don’t care about the other one. Probably outside my financial comfort zone anyway.
First one is distinctly meh, the big beastie is definitely a new high though
Great new look. Can’t wait to see how they expand the units she commands beyond the witches.
needless to say this is elves so I really don’t care no matter how good snakey girl looks , BUT there are at least 2 new units which appear tied to both Morathi’s appearances, one small snakey elves, , one fly-y winged stabby elves. about mid way through…. I like Jeremy Veetok so I watched the whole thing despite the Dwarfs in my hobby room death staring me while I did …… it was for research okay …..*grumpy buggers.

and .. that is exactly the same video that Ben has linked at the top ….. *sighs and slaps self around
Over all she seems okay. Yes, there are some nice bits and pieces on the bestial form like the evil face with longer ears and the curling snake body. But not even that form is really great. And the other one seems rather lame. In general but for such a character even more so.
The monster form is stunning, and I agree with comments about the base form – in particular the removal of the wings!
As for the cost of GW, no arguments from me, however it is possible to build forces around the starter kits (Spire of Dawn in my case) that can get you well underway for a reasonable cost.
Well, I think I’ve found a good daemon princess for my 40k Slaanesh army 😀
AoS just keeps getting better.
I’ll be picking up this kit for sure. Currently working on some witch elves at the moment.
I also like the sound of her rules. You can chose to transform her when you wish but if she gets hit enough times she might transform on her own. Will give your opponent something to think about.
I loooooove this model
Ran into Baz my elf loving friend down town after work this arvo , he was very excited about this release though he was watching a video on their lore and was disturbed by the fact there were so few aelves left in the mortal realms ………. *sigh* ……….. knew I loved AoS for a reason ……:
😀
Maybe its just cause I’m used to seeing massive models out of GW right now, but this one seems to actually be decent in terms of visually pleasing and not outrageously busy. I think the runes are a bit much perhaps. But overall it really is pretty amazing. The miniature counterpart seems a bit too much however with the armor cascade in front and the blood on the wings.
Excuse me but… When exactly is this coming out? It would appear GW and the main web outlets are blissfully unaware of this release since it isn’t even appearing as a preorder. @Brennon did you jump the gun a bit? 🙂
I think it’s up for pre-order this weekend
@cadfael Head on over to the warhammer community site to get the early news on stuff 🙂
