Monstrous Beasts & A New Warband For Age Of Sigmar Warcry
October 1, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has been talking more about the future of Warcry this week as we take another dive into the skirmish game set within the Mortal Realms of Age Of Sigmar. First up, we got a look at one of the models from the new Spire Tyrants tribe.
Dive Into Warcry @ Store.OnTableTop
These are the deadly gladiators who find themselves fighting in and around the Varanspire itself. They look like a mix between the classic Marauder and Chaos Warriors thanks to their choice of armour and weapons. I do like the look but I will be interested to see if they do something a bit quirkier with the rest of the warband.
As well as that you'll also be able to add a new monster into the mix, both to fight against and perhaps bring into your service. Here is the new Fomoroid Crusher!
I think this looks awesome and a brilliant addition to the mix of different creatures you're able to fight in the game. The realm of Chaos and all of its weirdness is the perfect breeding ground for them to start building lots of interesting monsters that work as a good supplement to the expanding world of Age Of Sigmar.
If we're seeing these popping up in Warcry then I kind of hope we get statistics for fighting them in the likes of Soulbound, the new roleplaying game from Cubicle 7 too. Of course, there will also be a Warscroll for this so you can use it in your regular games too one would imagine.
Books & Terrain
Beyond the model previews, we also had a peek at a new book called the Tome Of Champions.
This book contains the rules for all of the different factions currently available in the game. So, if you don't have the cards for a specific faction for whatever reason you'll be able to find them all in here. A nice addition to the range for organisational purposes.
There will also be a new box of terrain which brings you another landscape to fight over, the Azyrite Ruined Chapel.
This looks like somewhere that the Stormcast Eternals would certainly want to try and claim back from the forces of Chaos and the other factions roaming the wastes of the Mortal Realms looking for spoils to steal away and give to their benefactors.
There is a lot of good stuff on the horizon when it comes to Warcry and if you're really into your small scale skirmish games this is a wonderful introduction into the world of Age Of Sigmar. You only need to paint a handful of models, games are quick, and the campaign nature of it all means that you're telling a story as you play.
Are you a big fan of Warcry?

I’d definitely like to see more of the warband, but so far they’re really looking cool. The style of armor really reminds me of a stripped-down version of the plate that normal Chaos warriors wear, almost like a dark version of the Stormcast Vanguard. The Fomoroid is also looking especially brutal and horrific; it’s nice to see that GW is bringing in more obscure elements from the old world like the Fimirach. The only thing is that this guy appears half-Fimirach and half-ogre…which leads to the disturbing question of how he came to be…
Magic, its magic.
Iirc, the Fimir did not have females, so they raid and capture women from other races to erm… Surrogate for them. That was oooold hammer fluff though. Doubt they would try to write that now!
They redid the Genestealer cults recently, didn’t they? I was shocked at that, for similar reasons.
finally!! spire tyrants!!!
at the moments is only one miniature, but i like that i see…the helmet is pure gold, chaotic barbarian non retro style! hell yeah
the formorian has a static pose but is awasome too
The new marauders, sorry, spire tyrants, look neat. The fomoroid has a very unfortunate name, but cool to see it takes inspiration from the long-abandoned lore.
I really really hope they’re doing WaaaghCry … what faction other than Chaos has such an appetite for conflict ?
Definitely grabbing that the ‘tome of champions’, because pretty much all the AoS faction card sets have sold out.
Two great looking figures.
How many factions or armies do we really need? Do we really need four or five undead factions? Do we need three types of dwarves, or five types of elves? Just because there are four Dark Gods, does that really mean we need four or five different Chaos armies?
The models look nice, but I’m skeptical of this approach to “throwing everything at the wall and then throwing the kitchen sink for good measure”.
