The Maggotkin Of Nurgle Lumber Forth & Arrive In 2018
December 28, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop has previewed more of the models coming in 2018 with a focus towards the Maggotkin Of Nurgle. This new force will be lumbering across the world for Age Of Sigmar soon...
It's going to be interesting seeing how much of a place Nurgle takes in the story going forward for Age Of Sigmar. There is decidedly a focus towards the forces of Chaos and darkness in this new expansion to the game, and the new models are actually looking rather awesome...
Great Unclean One
Leading the way we're going to see a new plastic model for the Great Unclean One. This Greater Daemon might look familiar, especially in one of his three guises, as he's matched against some of the older artwork for this daemonic horde.
Much like as we've seen with the Bloodthirster there will be multiple options for your Great Unclean One allowing you to change up their weapons and abilities to suit the armies you are going up against.
This is possibly one of the models that I don't quite like as much as the others. The bell just doesn't seem as threatening as some of the other options.
This version of the model with the massive staff, however, is rather awesome. Oh, and it should be pointed out that this model does indeed tower over your other figures making for an imposing figure on the battlefield.
I think I also like the fact that this model offers up some interesting options when it comes to painting as well. You have the draped cloth over the face as a contrast plus the tendrils reaching out from its other grasping hand.
Heralds Of Nurgle
As well as the massive models we're also seeing some smaller character choices for your army. For example, here we have the Sloppity Bilepipers.
These gibbering lunatics once again show off some of the inventive ways in which Games Workshop are trying to add character to the Nurgle force. I quite like his cobbled-together instrument made of the internal organs of some unfortunate foe.
You also have theSpoilpox Scrivener who has a very alien and Cthulhu look to him don't you think?
You can find out more about these new characters and more over on the Warhammer Community website where they have been talking about the force in more detail.
Also, don't forget to check out the trailer above too for some background to what's happening in the Mortal Realms.
What do you think of these new Nurgle models?

The third variant of the Great Unclean One is fantastic. Really like the heralds but I feel the sculptor may need to see a therapist 😉
I’ve gotta say, I absolutely love the direction they’re going with these days. The heralds, plus the new night goblin shaman are some of the most characterful and interesting sculpts I’ve seen in a long time. Keep it up 🙂
…………….I have always been a loyal servant of Order,(well ,aside from that Chaos Dwarf army … but that was dwarfs) …. ……….but damn they are making it hard…. I loved the Silver Tower Tzeentch minis, I love last years Tzeentch release and i always find myself drifting over to their shelves in the shop. Now this !!!!! That outrageous grin on the first one with his classic horns …. how could you not love him? Well they do say Chaos is insidious, and Stinky and Sneaky are my two favourite Chaos Gods. (Sorry Surly, Sleazy and Squeaky) .. If only… Read more »
watched the animation and never knew that these nurgle characters came from the west country i was waiting for the “hello my luver”
Well those Nurgle demons are really nice on they own Nurgle way. Then again GW does love Nurgle over all other four Chaos Gods so of course his demons and followers get some great models every time.
Yeah when will they give Knorne some love ?………….. *slaps self …. *shows self out
Obviously in my haste to be a smart @r$e I have misspelt Khorne … (Knorne is his bad tempered little sister who is obsessed with past wrongs….)
Knorne the chef of Khorne, if you are aware of the uk stock pot makers in Oz
Sorry Mate …no …. but I am sure it was a clever reference 😉
Not really just a name simularity
Well personally i would love to see Slaanesh get some love as well on 40k side like new Keeper of Secrets (last Greater Demon without updated model) because if I understood right they took him out from AoS. After all they current model for Archaon Everchosen rides beast with only three heads instead of four.
Oh the fourth one’s on there, it’s just lower down.
Yes, one would expect Slaanesh to get some love soon.
X-)
@mecha82 I think it maybe more the themes and style palette of nurgle may inspire/enable the designers to go more wild and have fun more resulting in the great minis rather than any preference, I cite the butt-ugly nastiness that is the bloodthirster as an example that being loved/popular doesn’t guarantee good minis.
Khorne and Tzeentch have both received significant attention since AoS was released. Khorne was one of the armies released in the initial AoS starter set and they got a few new releases at the time. Tzeentch have had a fair amount of new models over the last 12-18 months too, with Silver Tower starting the ball rolling. Off the back of that they got Khairic Acolytes, a few Tzangor kits and a new Lord of Change. Nurgle is the third Chaos god to receive an update since mid 2015
That leaves Slaanesh as only Chaos God without new models. Something that IMO he needs.
Because of the more mature themes associated with Slaanesh, it was always going to be last if it even gets done at all, they might just phase Slaanesh out. And even if Slaanesh gets an update I wouldn’t be surprised if it looks very different to the current range.
@mecha82 absolutely but that is hopefully due to a slight redesign, I wojld like to see them go fully into Slaanesh as a god of excess not just the tits and arse aspect but really diverse range
Well some redesign for Keeper of Secrets is expected but hopefully possible result will be worth it while still being able to keep some aspects of Slaanesh.
Really liking the direction they are taking with nurgle, it is something different from the recent design studio fare and yet clearly referring past touches.
Not interested in the mortal stuff as don’t want minis for a game I don’t play but they are tempting in a huge obese rotting alive man kinda way.
They all look good the third great unclean one looks more corrupted I think.
Very happy about these, it seems the guy on the snails was just the beginning, great great work on Nurgle, love them I might just buy them even if I don’t play AoS or 40K
The second GUO looks like my mother in law
I’m not a huge fan of the Heralds of Nurgle but I quite like the great unclean one. I don’t think I am sold on GW’s paint scheme for Nurgle though, it seems a little too lurid, more like the sort of colours you might see with Slaanesh or Tzeentch.
Yeah!!! Great Unclean Three!
Really like the little dancing goober at the foot of the piper. Looks like he’s singing the closing chorus to a Broadway show.
All good, but the first ‘classic’ unclean one is my favourite. Massive progress from the last sculpt.
Creature Caster makes a great one as well, although it sold out over Christmas:

Might even be cheaper in the end.
Hi mate … followed your link .. they are sold out …. which is always the situation when I visit creature caster. You are right their models are nice, but they really aren’t set up for a mass market.
Sorry @beardragon14 . Everything was in stock before Christmas, but a lot of it is gone now. He’s not quite a one-man band, but I think he has a pretty small shop. Still, some stunning models when they’re available.
Still looking to pick up this fellow as the centerpiece of a hellish army:

A lot of things are back in stock, but I’m guessing the nurgly thing will continue to sell out pretty quick as it is an awesome proxy for the GW table.
No thanks. The Unclean One sculpt is the best, as it is, well, ‘clean’. You can tell what it is at a glance. The others, not so much.
I think this is one set with three ways of putting it together. I like the body of the first one best and the head of the second one. If I was a very experienced modeller I would try to assemble the whole thing in a way that I could swap heads and arms, little pegs and all that. Or even just the hands instead of the arms, which might be just one version, so one hand with sword, one with the bell and one with the staff for the right hand, chains, executioner and bare hand for the left… Read more »
@jemmy Have you thought of using magnets to swap out heads and arms? They’re a bit fidgety but I’m sure someone at your local game store will be able to help you out.
This is a splendid idea. For a start I´m going to use Flames of War magnets. Hope they´re strong enough.
The small rare earth magnets are relatively cheap and most importantly, quite powerful. They’ll quickly turn that fellow into any variant you want. As @dags mentioned below, depends on how the arms and head go together. Might be some putty involved, but I’m sure your LGS can help with that as well.
I reckon body and head will be easy interchange looking at the pics. Arms would need to see the kit, and see where the joins are, plus as @cpauls1 say may be able to magnetise but some recent kits are like weird 3d jigsaws so trick is anchor points
I am ready grandfather to spread your gifts………now to get some gifts for me.
Oh man, oh man, that Great Unclean One is an absolute MUST HAVE for me! I love the way they provide different building options. I think I’m going to go with the bell in one hand, the chains in the other, and those gross mouths in his stomach.
The Scriverner looks interesting too.
And of course gotta get that Battletome.
An exciting way to kick off the new year, GW!
