Go Hunting With The New Stormcast Eternal Vanguard
February 11, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop expands upon their collection for Age of Sigmar and the Stormcast Eternals with two new sets for you to check out. We're starting off with the Vanguard Hunters...
The Vanguard Hunters are those Stormcast Eternals who head out in front of the main force to pave the way for a great host to arrive. This is shown in their lighter armour design and the addition of furs cloaks, giving them a more wilderness living aesthetic.
I do like the look of these models and while it's yet more for the Stormcast I think it's cool to see more facets of their army coming to life. I particularly like that we're seeing more Stormcast with their helmets off. More axes is always a good thing too, a brutal and awesome looking weapon.
Wild Companions
Accompanying them on their hunt we also have the Gryph Hounds who are a group of savage looking beasts ready to rip and tear their way through the enemy!
These are some powerful looking beasts and I think, once again, we've got some cool stuff coming out for the Stormcast Eternals. I like the design and I think it's cool to see some beasts which are a step up from the smaller ones we'd seen in the likes of Silver Tower and as companions for the other characters.
So, will you be diving into more painting for your growing Stormcast Eternal army?

Theres also the Deathworld Forest for 40k :

If it wasn’t so expensive (for me) id of prolly picked a set up to convert into bizarre xenos.
The Deathworld forest is probably the worst thing workshop have put out in ages. Pipecleaners and plasticine could achieve the same effect. As for the price looks like someone has been indulging on Norfolk shore finds.
Cool, I’d love to see what you do with pipecleaners and plasticine then. Where is your project log?
I quite like the forest. Weird and gross looking. Would work well for Malifaux bayou terrain too. Bit on the expensive side for GW terrain but then all of their recent 40k terrain seems silly prices compared to their AoS stuff.
Huge price drop to, from £30 for 5 to £37.50 for 10
Loving the Gryph Hounds, wide range of colours used.. a large pack of these would look excellent in game
I now see what your talking about. They repackaged the other 5 model count boxes to have 10 model counts and lowered the price per model. That might get me to buy them now were as before it just seemed like it was not worth getting them for just a hand full of models at such a high cost.
Might actually pick up some Judicators at their new price. Now of they could just do the same for Paladins I would be very happy.
They just made the Marine conversion much easier. Still great looking Alternate Marines.
Those Gryph Hounds are actually neat looking beasts and it’s nice that now you can get them without having to buy Sigmarine model with them.
I think these are a step too far for me. The cross bows look far too much like bolt guns and, for troops that are supposed to be hunters and scouts, they are a little too heavily armoured. Generally I like the Stormcast Eternals but I think these fall into the same bracket as Space Marine centurions – unnecessary and not particularly pretty. I think I would rather they had spent the effort on a different faction.
I like the look of them… But agree that they’re ridiculous as scouts for the reasons you mention.
That’s lighter armor? It looks like full plate in it’s entirety, not a single open area of chain mail, leather, hide or cloth. Perhaps its the groin that we can’t see that is unarmored that make them so much faster and lighter to be scouts for this army.
LITERALLY Bolt Pistols !! Come on guys!l
Great models though, and the price drop is excellent – dislike that they show what’s under the mask of the Stormcast though.
GW still very hit and miss. These are definitely a miss for me
Oh, look, more fat sigmarines… I’m so excited. 🙁
Rather than being sinewy, the gryph hounds look like they’re retaining water. Sigh… no thanks.
On a positive not, good on them for reducing the price. I just wish they would do that on something I would be tempted to buy.
may make a great new marine Chapter? for the big push back to the eye of chaos.
I thought sigmarines were made up of pure energy, or am I recalling that incorrectly? Odd to see a regular dude under the helmet.
I thought they were like Johann Kraus in Hellboy?

Ha yeah thats pretty much what I thought as well
If you read the initial fluff and then no they are solid bodies under the armor but the energy runs through their bodies like blood and they are not made of energy.
Yeah I really only read a bit about them when they were inteoduced. Thanks for clearing that up.
GW will keep releasing them until you all love them…
the small pelts on their armour make them like huntsmen – but nothing says scout/woodsman like a David Crockett hat 🙂
imagine what GW are planning for the Custodes 🙂
Got 2 boxes of Hounds and 1 box of Hunters on pre order. Now to await the next wave of awesome Stormcast releases.
Probably in the next month given their current fondness for Stormcast. Would rather see some dwarves or elves instead though.
Sorry, the Sigmarines still do nothing for me.
Let’s have a JR Ewing moment and have someone wake up from this bad dream and bring back the Old World fluff just like the past 3 years never happened
Yep I’ve ordered the battletome, hunters and gryph hounds.
I don’t know how many of the new stormcast prayer cards Australia got but i put my order through in 3mins and missed out :(.
I like these and I’ll probably get them at some point. I wonder how easy it is to remove the shoulder pads? I think these would look very good without the shoulder pads. I’d also like to rotate the cross pieces of the crossbows but looking at the images I don’t think that would be an easy thing to do.
Presumably the plate armour is thinner, which makes it “light” armour in the eyes of SE?
Im gonna get a set of the new guys and the battle tome
Yup, fine I guess; hopefully that’s it for Sigmarites for a while now. I have to say I’m more on board with AoS than I was at launch, but one of my main criticisms was that not enough stuff had been released for the other factions. Maybe if all factions had gotten something new at the start, perhaps the launch wouldn’t have been quite so rocky. I can’t help but feel that focus should now be on some of the other factions, like “normal dwarfs”, or the normal humans (Free people is it?), or something elf (not wood elf), or… Read more »
