Roboute Guilliman Commands The Space Marines From Forge World
June 19, 2015 by brennon
Forge World have now released the mighty Roboute Guilliman for the Ultramarines of the Horus Heresy. This commanding character and key part of the way the Space Marine hierarchy is set in the modern game is probably no push over on the battlefield either...
The Master Himself...
Primarch of the Ultramarines Legion and Master of the Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar - quite the title to hold. He is clearly heavily inspired by the Romans of our own Ancient History and if you're going to base a character on anything why not the most powerful military force ever?
More on this key figure in the saga...
"His mastery of strategy makes him not only an unrivalled commander, but also a lethal combatant. An expert in the arts of war, Guilliman possesses a vast selection of weapons and wargear. The most iconic of which include the Hand of Dominion, a unique power gauntlet, the Gladius Incandor, a shimmering blade of great artifice and the Arbitrator, a customised combi-bolter."
Model-wise I think they've got it spot on with Guilliman. He's packed with detail, his facial expression is well sculpted and he's posed quite well too. Considering the way in which he fights and commands his forces it makes sense to have him in a more neutral stance.
A rather impressive character.

Picked him up at the WHW Re-Opening, still haven’t got round to starting him though due to other projects, but the mini is really nice!
I like it. this is the Space Marine style that captured my imagination two decades ago.
I might not be fan of character but i must admit that that sculpt looks amazing.
Its certainly well sculpted, I’m just not an ultramarine fan. That and I really wanted to see him with the gauntlet’s of ultramar at least.
Did he have those during the Heresy? I didn’t think he did.
Just says he got them from a champion of chaos, so I suppose it could have happened during the heresy.
i’m kind of glad they did him this way, otherwise we we would just see him rolled out as MAC all the time in 40k
He’s a bit tall… 😉
wouldn’t stop me trying haha!
All hail the king of the space smurfs! What the mini really needs is a good nurgling up!
wheres an ordo when you need it to expunge the heresy!
I really like the sculpt, honorable brothers 😉
I’m visiting the UK next month. Will want to pick up a treat of a mini from warhammer world. It was going to be Horus but this might be it. He looks pretty iconic. I think it looks more impressive on the smaller base without scenry to detract from his lovely armour. Having said that I love the white marbel effect. In fact its gobsmacking….how do they do that?
I’m dreading to paint the marble, none of that is sculpted on. It’ll take some doing to get that looking good enough to do the mini justice
Don’t worry, painting faux marble is nowhere near as difficult as you might think; its a psychological thing. Plenty of videos on You Tube from interior decorators. The scale may be bigger but the principles are the same. Also some decent miniatures guides online as well. The best tips I can give: Lots of subtle changes to the base tone. In other words whatever you mix as your base, add small amounts of blues, greys or creams into that to create different tones and keep a little bit of the base mix handy if you want to restore back. Keep… Read more »
Here’s Demetris’s (FW Painter) guide to painting marble on Guillimans base: Matt, black undercoat, airbrush ulthuan grey (or equivalent off white), zenithal airbrush white. Turn Dark Reaper into a very thin glaze using clear medium, apply with large brush randomly to create the wave patterns. Leave to dry and repeat the same using skavenblight dinge, only a bit less as you don’t want it to overpower the previous layer. Use slightly thinned Dark Reaper to paint the veins keeping them all going in the same direction. Use skavenblight with a little black to paint the centre of some veins to… Read more »
Thanks guys. I’d love to have that capability in my painting armoury. I think I may have to practice it a bit first. I wonder what the wife would say if our kitcken worktop suddenly got blinged to a faux marble lol.
£65.00 lol. It should come with real marble.
Wow! Your getting slow. It took you 12 posts to complain about the price.
Couldn’t find anything wrong with it, so had to quickly check the site to check the price 😛
Sorry @zeker1966. I have a life. You’re right @deaddave . It’s a nice mini.
this is like almost every video on youtube… i’ll get my popcorn and wait for the next retort 😛
this really did make me laugh!
That is a lovely model, as I have come to expect from Forgeworld’s Horus Heresy character series, and the Primarchs in particular.
With all the very strong Roman imagery, and the obvious nods to the historical and literary aspects of Julius Caesar, I can imagine him saying “Et tu, Lorgar?” Though things between Guilliman and Lorgar went a bit differently than between Caesar and Brutus.
That’s a superb model. It’s not a great pose for a gaming model but taken as a whole it’s absolutely stunning. Just the right balance between Nobility and Imperial Authority.
I think hes allright, probably a bit boring compared to the other Primarch models.
wow, Rupert Gurliman’s looking pretty damn good…
I think its exactly what Roboute is supposed to be, is he the most furious of the primarchs… not really. Is he the most hansome… probably not with the likes of Sanguinius… I think it nails what he and his Ultramarines are like.
Not really to my tastes but blob on for what he is.
very nice may have to put that on the to get list.
Its a good sculpt and a great depiction of the character. Unfortunately he is not one of the interesting primarchs, unless I do a complete primarch collection some day as a painting project not one for me.
Is it me of does the face and hair look dry brushed?
Beautiful model. Definitely one of the better ones in the series, in my opinion.
I think the Horus Heresy has been a real boon to the Ultramarines, taking them from being dull ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ stock combatants to having an interesting and clearly defined role. And this model contributes to that process!
Yeah, good model. Amazing that this HH has put the Ultras as angelicdespot says ” Jack of all trades ” to Amazing warriors, martyrs, defenders of the poor, tunnel rats, etc…. I remember in the old times there were no stories of Ultramarines on the HH, they where just sitting on their side of the Galaxy while the ” Real loyalists ” were ducking it out on Terra defending the Emperor of mankind. But they where the poster boys of GW and we had to abide by those rules, and now with this novellas, they have become what they never… Read more »
I think they’ve also been lucky in having Dan Abnett write their key books to date! Some of the other Legions have been, shall we say, less fortunate?
