The Disciples Of Tzeentch Begin Weaving Spells In Age Of Sigmar
January 14, 2017 by brennon
The Changer of Ways is digging his claws into the Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar as Games Workshop focus in on the Disciples Of Tzeentch for their pre-orders this week. Take a look...
First up we have the book which will guide you in the ways of creating a dangerous and magically potent force on the tabletop. The forces are detailed within as well as some new lores of magic plus background and even Path To Glory rules too so you can work on your smaller warbands.
Of course, you can't have a warband without some warriors and that's where the Kairic Acolytes come in.
You'll be able to make twenty of these warriors who were first seen as part of the Silver Tower set for Warhammer Quest least year. A few upgrade options are including giving you different weapon options and the deadly Vulcharc which will be swooping in at you to attack.
Leading the way we also have some more personalities from Silver Tower. This means a Gaunt Summoner takes to the field...
...and an Ogroid Thaumaturge!
I still really like the direction that Games Workshop went in with the Ogroid Thaumaturge and I hope that they carry this over into the look of the new Ogors across the board. While I don't mind the previous incarnation I think this would certainly follow along with the more magical setting of Age of Sigmar.
Finishing things off Games Workshop has also put together a set of Tzeentch Dice for those avid collectors.
It seems somewhat of a bad idea to play with fate using dice based on the God that loves to trick and weave fate between its fingers. Well, I'm sure that you know what you're doing anyway fellow Sorcerers. Right?
What do you think of these new magical offerings for this week?

I like how the marauders now look like there patron gods.
Me too. It makes the armies just look that much better. And I think it’s also cool if you do a warband with supporters of different Gods that you can quite quickly see the different factions, even among the Cultists.
I like the summoner, the rest not so much.
Nice to see the neglected powers getting coverage, now what ,are they going to do about Slaanesh ……
I kinda like the aesthetic on the acolytes. Odd the wizard faction has gone all sculpted muscle men
I don’t think Slaanesh exists anymore, something in the fluff about him/her going missing.
He exists its just if GW have an idea for him, the whole Slaanesh missing thing and not filling out the setting is a real negative in my view.
I think they’re going to sanitise Slaanesh and make him/her/it more family friendly. So there will probably be less emphasis on the pleasures of the flesh. I think if they get rid of Slaanesh entirely the Chaos Pantheon will be a much emptier place.
Slaanesh is on a farm up north with the Squats and Zoats, having a wonderful time running around in the big wide pastures. I SWEAR your mother and I didn’t find him floating in the bowl and flush him down the commode while you were at school.
Waiting on Papa Nurgle to get some love. But I like what’s seeing here, that Acolytes are especially good. Dice are muck though. A definite case of style over substance. They would have been fine with the symbols on the ‘1’ and ‘6’ but the ‘2’ to ‘5’ look really awkward to read.
What about the chaos warriors ??? 😮
I have Khorne’s river of blood running through my veins but I have to say these are so good I might have to sneak some of these under my pile of axes and hope Khorne doesn’t notice……
I would say though, that much the same with the Tzangors for 40k, I thought the models in Silvertower were better versions of these…not by much mind.
In the words of the great Freddie Mercury I want it all and I want it now.
That Summoner is actually rather good while those other models are rather meh.
I like the sorcerer and the ogroid. the arms are a little short in a practical sense but it kind of fits with his overall power house look. the paint job on this guy is really cool.
the aesthetic for age of sigmar has been growing on me, I thought silver tower looked great when it came out and the sylveneth like wise.
Those acolytes look really clunky. The other two are just OK. The ogre thingie had potential, but the legs are too thick. Looks like he needs a thigh master.
GW just hasn’t reconciled CG sculpting with dynamic movement IMO.
It’s a fantasy theme so they can look any way what’s soever; so body proportions don’t really matter especially with the followers of chaos.
Sorry @craddock169 , but for me it just looks wrong. To my mind, if you’re going to emphasize the strength of a creature, it would only make sense to contrast the upper body thickness with thinner, bull-like legs, something everyone can identify with and associate with strength and a Dionysian theme. The legs on this model just look chubby, an unfortunate style GW has been leaning toward more and more. I don’t know… maybe ‘fat’ is their new propriety look (it’s hard to use GW models in other games because of this). It is also a very stiff pose, in… Read more »
I really like all of these. And I hope the cover of the new book indicates that a plastic Lord of Change will be following shortly. The plastic Bloodthirster was ace. I hope Tzeentch get their own dedicated Chaos warriors too. I quite like the aesthetic of the standard plastic troops, but their poses are so, so boring. And the style of them, good though it may be, will look very out of place next to all these strongly-themed Tzeentch models.

Ha! Trust me to catch on to something too late! Still, at least it’s happening!
So, first thing that grabbed me was I thought the “quick link” was artwork of the ogroid… I didn’t realize that was actually the painted figure… wow… that is a really nice effect… the blending is top notch… I think the Sorcerer is super creepy… and the Ogroid I think is maybe only suffering from a weird angle … I’m hoping he looks a bit more proportional from a different angle.. the Acolytes look suitably ‘normal’ as just followers who could be further corrupted… I also really like the theme and consistency between weapons and sigils and shields across this… Read more »
I actually quite like all of those which is good going these days!
Why are they calling that minotaur an ogor?
At this moment the only thing keeping me away from starting up with GW products again is the way they write rules. But it’s getting harder to resist. Way back when I had a beasts of chaos army I’d given an arm and a leg for this kind of stuff and I can still feel the pull.
Nothing stopping you from using these mini’s in other games, is there? And you’re right about GW rules 😉
I like all of these. I think the acolytes definitely look better in real life. As @thursday mentions I like how you can tell they are Tzeentch.
I mean they are still pansies and my Khorne marauders would eat them but that’s for a different topic.
Ahh parochialism ……. it makes the hobby worthwhile…. you stick it to ’em Khorne boy 🙂
I also pre-ordered the City of Secrets novel which sounded great.
The fluff has move on a couple of hundred years and its based in one of the new city’s. It has witch hunters, dark aelfs running the docks and of course the cults of tzeencht. The stormcast are in it but it’s more about what it’s like being under their rule which isn’t all smiles.
Aren’t those two the same minis from the silver tower boardgame ?
Yup. Too funny. Might as well just buy the game if you want these figures. I was wondering why they were cheaper!
Ogroid looks great, the Summoner looks very Hellboy angel, ish.
Wow, that Thaumaturge is sick. New releases like this are pushing me towards AoS. I hope they keep up the good work.
As someone who has worked with these sculpts I have to say they are absolutely phenomenal and they are a lot of fun to paint up 😀 and the new additions they have brought to acolytes are really interesting. The bird, the new version of the shields, and the scroll are absolutely astounding. I am looking forward to getting some myself 🙂
The thing that strikes me most about this product range is how outrageously camp the models are getting. The Acolytes are kitted out as anonymous Gimps in skimpy attire. I wonder where the design team get their influences from, perhaps they enjoy colourful private lives? Interestingly I am reminder of my old He-Man Toys when I was at primary school.
It’s Tzeentch so yeah, you kinda nailed it there.
Used to be Slaanesh’ job…
The Ogroid I really like.
But those dice are going to be so terrible to actually use.
