Games Workshop announced this weekend that the Skaven had claimed victory in The Slaughter At Hel Crown, an event that played out alongside the release of the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. With the Skaven destroying the city, they got first dibs when it came to showcasing the new miniatures coming to support the army.

Leading the way is the towering form of Vizzik Skour who was born into the world as part of the wave of primal energy that burst forth during Kragnos' escape from his mountain prison. This daemonic creature emerged from the Masterburrow and once the Skaven had fulfilled Archaon's plans, the Great Horned One was placed in the pantheon of Chaos and Vizzik Skour became the Lord of the Gnaw and Prophet of the Horned Rat

He is one of the big centrepiece miniatures of this edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and it looks like he might end up dwarfing some of the other existing Verminlords. He drives fellow Skaven into a bloodthirsty zeal and comes covered in squeaking servants including the littlest Grey Seer you'll ever see (right shoulder).

Backing him up is the fearsome Krittok Foulblade.

Krittok Foulblade // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

He is a Clawlord of renown and knows the tricks of the trade that keep leaders like him alive on the battlefield. He will still send swarms of Clanrats to their deaths to achieve his aims but he also knows the value of "live to fight another day" and so he's also known for preserving his troops...so he can then throw them to their deaths during battles which feel more in his favour.

He also comes with the Doomfang which is a sword that contains the soul of a Verminlord. That makes the blade a deadly instrument and Krittok can use it to his advantage but in doing so, a bargain is struck and time is shaved off the sentence of imprisonment that the Verminlord must serve.

Keeping with characters but switching it up a little bit, we also got a look at the new Master Moulder.

These craven "scientists" make use of terrible techniques to bring their experiments to life. Rat Ogors, Brood Terrors and more are birthed from their nightmarish laboratories and they also aren't afraid of doing a bit of experimenting on themselves. I really like this new miniature and all of the little details. Having the stitched-on apprentice reloading his pistol is a nice touch.

Calling on power through other means, there is also the new Arch-Warlock.

Arch-Warlock - Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

Arch-Warlock // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

This fellow from Clans Skryre uses warp-science, a blend of magic and technology, to create terrible inventions that blow up as many of his own kin as they do the enemy. You can see that he has either replaced many of his own body parts with new, perfect machinery or he has been forced to after too many experiments went wrong. I'm not so sold on this fellow but he matches up quite nicely to some of the lore we've had regarding these tech-savvy Skaven.

Talking of mad experiments, you also have the Warlock Galvaneer!

Only the most deranged are tasked with lugging these insane pieces of technology into battle. The Warpvolt Obliterators do what they say on the tin and I would guess that many Skaven give these fellows a wide, wide, wide berth.

Some old favourites from the Skaven range have also had an upgrade. You are going to be able to toss the Acolyte Globadiers into an ambush or two, choking your enemies with their orbs of noxious fumes.

These have had a proper upgrade and I really like the way they look. They have all the flavour of the old miniatures but with more modern poses. As a lot of folks have said, hopefully, they are also good in the game!

If you'd prefer to decimate your enemies without the need for delicate orbs, you could also choose from the Warpspark Weapon Battery.

This set will come with a mixture of different weapons like Ratling Guns, Warpfire Throwers and Warpvolt Scourgers. Once again, they are nice updates on the previous miniatures and give me hope for what Games Workshop are going to do when Clan Eshin finally get their update.

The Warp-Grinder also serves as a powerful weapon and a way for your Skaven to get where they need to go.

This can bore through the fabric of reality itself and allow your Skaven to spring up in the back lines of enemy formations. It can also punch a hole through heavy armour or blast apart a gargant's leg if you so desire.

If you're still wondering "where are my Doomwheels?" then we have the answer for you on that front too. See what you make of the Doom-Flayers.

Doom-Flayers // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

These were originally mining devices and they are not unpredictable weapons of death and destruction. Once their warp engines have been fired up, they race around the battlefield turning the enemy into piles of body parts before long. They are the world's deadliest set of Beyblades.

Last, but by no means least, we also have the upgrade for the Stormvermin.

Stormvermin - Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

Stormvermin // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

The Stormvermin are the elite element of your Skaven army and often serve as bodyguards for your leaders. Whereas the typical Clanrat might run from a fight, the Stormvermin are more likely to hold their own and can often best even the most magnificent of The Mortal Realms' warriors like the Stormcast Eternals. Their cruel voulges also match their cunning as they can strike at their enemies from further away.

All of these miniatures will be coming soon alongside the new Battletome for the Skaven which has undergone a bit of a tweak and an update since the last edition. It will have all of the new profiles within its pages and updated lore. Games Workshop are also working on a new Gamers Edition of the Battletome which was described rather poorly in the update but seems to be both the Battletome (in softback format) and the relevant reference cards. A separate set of Warscroll Cards will also be available covering the Gnawfeast Clawpack Spearhead and all of the profiles for regular games of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar.

Are you excited to pick up these new Skaven miniatures? Are they destined for The Mortal Realms or maybe Warhammer: The Old World?
