Age Of Sigmar: Warcry Details Drop & Forbidden Power Awaits
March 13, 2019 by brennon
One of the big announcements from GAMA this year for Games Workshop and Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar has been the coming of Warcry, set to debut on tabletops this summer.
The Starter Set has been previewed in more detail in the trailer below, showing the clash between Chaos Warbands throughout the Mortal Realms.
This focuses us in on a special element of this game. It doesn't seem to be covering all of the different factions within the world of Age Of Sigmar but instead lets us experience the clash between the warring Chaos factions that are battling for supremacy and a place in the spotlight.
Each of your warbands is fighting to make their way to the fabled Varanspire, looking to perhaps claim daemonic blessings much like with the original Path To Glory? All of the miniatures included with this set and subsequent expansions for it look to be entirely new, giving us a new take on the kind of Warbands that dwell in the Mortal Realms.
The gameplay is meant to be quick and brutal (good) and focuses in on dynamic and cinematic clashes where your results carry over into campaign style games. I am very excited.
Forbidden Power Awaits
As well as the news about Warcry we also got a new teaser for what's happening with Forbidden Power, a new supplement and expansion to Age Of Sigmar proper.
It looks like things are going to be changing when it comes to Sigmar and his Stormcast Eternals.
New rules, new magical powers and of course narrative implications await in this new book and subsequent range of releases.
"Even A God May Regret What He Has Done"
Now that sounds like things are going to perhaps be spinning out of control for the forces of Order in the wake of Soul Wars.
Munchkin Backstabbing!
As well as those major announcements there was also a new collaboration between Steve Jackson Games and Games Workshop planned out for...you guessed it, Munchkin.
For those that love their casual games this sounds great and maybe it will even draw a few more people into the world of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. I can't wait to hear what jokes and such they put into the cards for this one.
What do you think of the new Mortal Realms GAMA news?

So…. Warcry is a… Mordheim redux? I really can’t keep up with GW and all it’s systems…. oO
More like Path To Glory x Kill Team than Mordheim since it’s focused on Chaos Warbands, not a variety from different factions.
My first impression from their marketing was that Warcry is trying to look like CMON’s HATE.
Which is kind of funny for a lot of reasons.
Warcry is CMON’s HATE! GW style more like…
Oooh, this looks interesting.
And the winner invades the rest of the world ?
I reckon Warcry will be my way into AoS. Like everything else I can’t afford the time commitment to full scale AoS, but Warcry could well be what I am after. I am fairly sure that rules for all the other factions will follow.
So this seems to be basically skirmish game for Chaos warbands only.
Yes, from the looks of it. Which I’m cool with – meaning they can really get to grips with making them feel awesome.
Heh – loving it. Looks like this could just as well be set in the Chaos Wastes of the old-world for all the difference it would make. Reminds me of the warband progression in the original Realm of Chaos books (not quite so many randomising charts I assume though XD)
Also some lovely looking gargoyle models in that video.
I’m in, I’ve been playing with the recently updated skirmish rules and having a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see how they tighten it up in a bespoke game system. Really looking forward to this one. If it takes off I can’t see why future expansions wouldn’t add to the narrative and draw on the other AoS factions as well.
Also, if that scenery is in the box it’ll look great alongside the rest of my azyrite ruins on the Blasted Hallowheart game board.
Also Also, “Even A God May Regret What He Has Done” might be referring to Nagash and the necroquake.
Looks like GW saved me some money here. I was hoping for Kill Team fantasy, but the chaos only taint puts me off.
I was hoping for some small scale battle with Idoneth or Daughters of Khaine or some of the other cooler factions… pretty much anything other than stormers or chaos…
You can do that with AoS Skirmish if you like @pagan8th – the rules for that are available in Issue #1 and #2 of the new White Dwarf.
I have the Skirmish rules that came out before Soul Wars, but it’s a small box of minis I’m looking for, not the skirmish rules.
However, as I just spent my day off playing Ranger of Shadow Deep (hardback is very nice) and having a great time… I might just buy some minis and send them in…
However… I also think my Wild West Exodus Indians would be awesome for Shadow Deep… and I’m pondering tweaking the rules to play it with Mansions of Madness minis and Kill Team: Rogue Trader (vs the nurgle of course).
To be fair they do have skirmish rules and point costs. The latest update was in the white dwarf two(?) months ago.
I’m pretty much with you on this one. Was really excited for a game that would give me a reason to buy some models from some different factions that I was interested in (but didn’t want a full army) and then seeing that it is all Chaos really deflated my enthusiasm. Still, I’m content to wait and see how it plays and how it plays out lore-wise. Maybe they’ll bring in the other factions at some point. (Since the Daughters of Khaine hate Slaneesh so much, that could be a good way to bring them in. Sylvaneth could be hunting… Read more »
This stuff looks very interesting. I want to know more.
Incredibly underwhelming “reveals”. Munchkin, so 10 years too late, AoS Skirmish but for Chaos only, and a teaser that teases nothing, because it failed to reveal even a single thing. Way to waste hype.
I’m not the biggest Chaos fan but this still looks interesting but I agree that it would have been nice if this was for more factions.
Chaos isn’t my first love either, but I’d rather them have a limited selection of factions and a tight/fun game than a game where everyone can bring their preferred faction or models but the game is no good as a result.
I understand preferring it was something else, but honestly, the Path to Glory rules have always been the coolest for Chaos.
This looks like the old warband campaigns in Realm of Chaos. And why yes I am that old.
