Dare you Read… the Call of Cthulhu?
March 22, 2012 by beerogre
To celebrate the launch of our Cthulhu Hub, we've reprinted the classic H.P. Lovecraft short story... The Call of Cthulhu... in all it's horrific glory!
As an extra bonus, we've even included some game notes for those who might want to use the story as a launch platform for their own adventurous tales in the world of unspeakable evil and eldritch horror.
This will be the first, but you can expect more to follow... in fact if you have any suggestions. Why not drop them below, or add them to the Cthulhu Forum.
Oh my, a Cthulu hub for all things Cthulu!!!
Just so happens that the Relics faction list, The C’thu, is in testing right and can you guess what they are based on?
The first short story that includes any real reference to the C’thu is actually live on our site: http://www.torgaming.co.uk/rd/feast-on-the-cthu/ but it doesn’t go well for the C’thu in it…..
I happen to have another short story centered around the C’thu…. Maybe I will send it to the BoW guys and see if they want to post it up as a BoW early exclusive. 😉
Hey Torgaming – sounds cool, please pop over to the hub and start a thread to share and for other investigators to comment…
This launch has made my day! My tentacles are wriggling with joy 😀
Come over to the hub and find out what that chanting sound is all about…
I’ve never played a Cthulhu game, but I’ve been a fan of Lovecraft for many years. In fact I’ve pulled out my Necronomicon collection to read through, inspired by reading the articles and posts of this new Hub.
My question is this: what is the best game to play as a newbie to Cthulhian gaming? Only two of us so boardgaming would be best.
Cheers
JP
The Fantasy Flight Card Game is good, and uses lots of great aspects of lovecrafts world, but is not a game of horror story telling.
The Mansions of Madness game is a great start. With one person being the keeper, playing the bad guys and the other playing the heros. It is quite complex to get the setup and ready to play, but flows really well, with plenty of opportunity to read the cards in voiceover mode to add to the story. Not a cheap game, but is a quality production and have a LOT of elements.
Fantasy Flight produce a few boardgames for the Cthulu Mythos. I think the best one is Mansions of Madness, but if its just the two of you Elder Sign might be better. Though I haven’t played it myself. Here a link: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=168&enmi=Elder%20Sign
Arkham Horror is a good board game, though a little hard to get to grips with at first and the set up can take longer than the actual game. Definitely advise on getting Fantasy Flight’s app for it, saves a lot of time.

No one can escape Cthulhu.
The stars are not right as my forbidden lore is as it says forbidden…..no reprint for me it seems. I shall offer 16 goats and a maiden to the watery depths to placate the old ones
This looks like a good beginning for the hub 🙂
