    Why are they doing this?

Money. That’s why. I’m guessing that they fear for their IP because of rights enforcement they could or could not do in different countries. Or maybe they failed to register rights to certain countries. Or they need Servers in each country?

    @maledrakh why ?
Because they don’t want to overload their servers …
Disney+ did the same when it launched, although that was US-focused.
As such limiting regions is a smart move.
Not being clear about when other regions may follow is annoying as f*ck though.

    And why an App ?
    Simple answer : control

The ‘problem’ with distributing digital content is that you don’t get to decide who gets to use it once someone downloads it from your servers (internet can’t function if stuff can’t be copied freely).
    The solution ?
Adding a few extra layers of encryption and an app that can verify if you’re allowed to open those digital packages.

They call it ‘Digital Rights Management’, but ‘Digital Restriction Management’ would be closer to the truth.

The servers argument is bogus. You don’t need infrastructure in every country, just a number of data centres to serve several countries (that number can be one).

I don’t know what their reason is.

GW does not need a reason for forcing scarcity, it is their business model in every release for 20 years lol. As for regions, when I cannot buy from England because of bogus zoning, but my product is alot more expensive, they lost me as a customer in 2011. Why does GW do these things, because they do not give a damn about the customer base. They have not looked after the old base for many years, it is rare to find anyone who played 5th or earlier still doing GW. Most have moved on to Infinity and other games that don’t cost the world to field a side and don’t then nerf the armies you spent thousands on just because. GWs market has become fan boiz who don’t even like gaming and painting for the most part, but are there due to the video games and novels. In short, I do not understand why any one still supports a company who does everything they can to alieniate their customers who are there for the reason the company exists in order to attract a new fan base who could not care less about the main reason the company exist, their games. Ask someone what GW is and noone will answer a video game designer, an animation studio or a publisher, yet, here we are where players and painters are shunned for video players and others.

Nurglings in the system – please try again.

Anybody else tried to subscribe to Warhammer +? Nothing seems to work. I would have expected a better launch.

Oh, that’s a lame pr stunt if I ever saw one.

There’s been a huge backlash on them cracking down on fan creators and massive talk of boycot.

They’ve been planning w+ for how long and now their servers are full? Pretty sure they’ll still get plenty of viewers, but this is just a lame attempt to appear more desirable than they are.

I call male bovine bovine excement.

they’re not exactly experienced in running a digital platform …

@somegeezer they could have made it a UK exclusive … or may be even an England exclusive 😉

I think everyone underestimated how many people would want to pay for a service that had not exactly said what content would be available.
I’m surprised people even bothered, but then I guess the ‘free’ mini must have convinced a lot of people.
And if you’re already paying a subscription fee for one of their army apps it makes sense …

@darkvoivod : if that ‘massive boycott’ were real they would have been posting record losses over the past few weeks.
Don’t be surprised if a lot of those folks did actually subscribe to WH+.
The vast majority of their customers is willing and able to deal with their shenanigans and price.
They might not even have the opportunity to play anything else …

(I’d argue that convincing people to stop playing GW is like convincing people to start using Linux instead of Windows/Apple.
It’s a great idea, but it is not practical for the vast majority of use cases)

Mate, we are not talking the local Hobby shop. We are talking GW. Any problem they experience with an online platform is BS and you know, I know it and they know it. Stop with the attempts to justify their piss poor behaviour LOL. They are treating their customers like THEY get to call the shots. If their customers wish to be treated like a slave of Slaanesh, nothing is ever gonna change and I will continue to boycott them no matter what they throw out there. Their product is great, the company is not worth spending a cent/dime/shilling on. There is much better modeling product and Gaming product. Why people allow GW to dictate things, I have no idea. If only a few got together and showed GW we are not taking it, thigs might change. For as long as people excuse their behaviour and keep going back, the company does not care. THe profit sheet is all that matters to them. If they cannot supply the demand after 50 years, it is never going to happen and they should allow 3rdparties nto the act, however, that is exactly what they have just removed from the market. So they are deliberately setting this up.

For a little ballance – I signed up on Wed with no issues. The IOS app has worked fine for me. From what I have seen, there were issues with people paying with card rather than paypal but I am not sure why.

I wanted access to the vault, and the mini, but i have been plesantly suprised by the painting videos, the two that are up are not ground breaking but are well done and I can see myself using what they have shown.  The animations are fine – they are not event viewing but are a fine way to kill 15 mins for me.

I was a bit disapointed that they shared the most recent white dwaves first in the vault (all of 2020), but that is more because I was hoping to go reread the mags of my youth. There was a decent amount of material there at launch that I hadn’t read before so I will have to have a look at that.

I am treating it as 21st century online White Dwarf which makes the price seem reasonable to me – if you want that content then it’s great, if you don’t then it will have very little value for you.

Well I can’t find a facebook post to say Warhammer + is full. Everything still says its available, it’s just the link that I assume takes you to the final step isn’t working.

I can understand limited runs of physical product from a business perspective, but an online service just needs a database to store my account information. The servers may have a capacity for how many can be watching videos at once but if they hit that limit they can easily (or should be able to if they’ve picked the right provider) boost capacity rapidly. I can see no reason to limit subscribers to a number.
