Solo rules are really important to me – and then applying a bit of randomness in an AI.

A simple rule set is good – one that can be used for newbies, children and when you want a light touch – and then the option to extend it when wanted.

What do rules need more of?  Miniatures!  There has been some really good work on new and innovative skirmish, small unit and even solo games recently.  I got Saga: Age of Hannibal last week and was really impressed.  At the back there is a system to convert Saga into a mass battle system.  Not sure I’m all that keen tbh.  I’d rather have a specific mass battle system that shows the same energy and creativity that modern small scale rules show.  It would be great to see a mass battle system that captures the imagination in the market the way that Warhammer Ancients did back in the day.  Come on designers.
