Since my pics on previous post dont work, I’ll try again. Attended a AoS Skirmish event last Sunday. Used some unofficial rules for mh Bretonnians. Rebased models I painted about sixs years ago. And painted one new mini for it.
Rebasing.
Made a tray too! I enjoy making these.
New addition, men-at-arms.
And a burning brazier.
Eel knights meeting real knights!
May 31, 2018 at 12:14 am #1194523I managed to get some painting done tonight. I finished both the Butcher and the King’s Man from Kingdom Death: Monster. Just varnishes and some finishing touches left.
May 31, 2018 at 12:56 am #1194603So I’ve made myself a new lighting setup, and the difference is amazing for my poor eyes! It’s nothing more than an LED strip attached to a strip of aluminium bent to fit into a simple MDF base. All up it’s less than $5 of components and about half an hour to make:
My first test run was finishing off my Grey Seer, who now just needs some flock / leaves / tufts on the base to be finished.
I’m gradually bringing / adding all my Skaven stuff to this project if you want to see more:

May 31, 2018 at 9:22 am #1194903The new Primaris Chaplain for my Ultramarines is done:
I had to paint him just because of his pose. He reminds me of a Rockstar 😉May 31, 2018 at 3:19 pm #1195139May 31, 2018 at 8:05 pm #1195397I painted this classic Eldar Warlock from Games Workshop in an Il-Kaithe colour scheme.
May 31, 2018 at 8:41 pm #1195411@while the pictures came out this time and look great.
@amachan those Kingdom Death monsters are nicely done. Between you and Drether I am sorely tempted to break mine out and start on them. They look fun to paint.
@george Sealy getting some good results from the new lighting set up. A friend of mine has built something similar and says he can’t go back. How does it effect picture taking?
@lenthalas sweet looking chaplain. Have you considered a light violet highlight on his staff handle? Might make that braided texture pop.
This last weekend I attended the KublaCon gaming convention here in the San Francisco Bay Area. While nothing I entered in the main Painting Exhibition even earned a bronze (Master Class is a tough road so will have to up my skills before next year) my Speed Painting entries did well. The way it works at KCon is that everyone has the same miniature and forty five minutes to complete it. Those who place in the top three of each round (about ten through the weekend) are qualified to sign up for the Masters Round held Sunday night. The first is a space girl from Bombshell Babes that was my qualifier for the final figure and placed first in the round. Honestly, BB minis are hard to paint badly and I was just lucky to have an extra minute to paint freckles and a lip highlight. The goblin is the 2018 KublaCon mini and was used for Sunday night’s final match. Twelve of us had signed up and despite it being TINY there were some amazing paint jobs. Masters Round actually get sixty minutes so can go into more detail. I placed Third with the two beating me being absolutely amazing (subtle blends and nice details). A fun time , all in all, though I am unsure how much longer my middle aged eyes and hands can keep up with the hugely talented young painters coming up the ranks every day.
May 31, 2018 at 8:54 pm #1195414@while What a beautiful and characterful army! It’s giving me all sorts of ideas for how to include my “Fantasy Sisters” models from Raging Heroes into a larger army for AoS…
@amachan I like the blue / purple / gold combo, looks great! Plus I remember that Warlock – when that range came out there was nothing like it from GW – such great models.
@lenthalas You’ve nailed the dark red on the cloak – I’m not 100% on the blue (shoulderpad) and purple (rod), but overall the mini looks really good.
@144artist I find it’s great for taking pictures – at least to the level I care about – no doubt a real enthusiast could point out issues! But there’s no big shadows, which is the main thing. I was previously taking photos in my (cheap) airbrush booth, which also has a “String” of LED lights around it, which gives a similar effect, but I find the new arch seems to distribute the light more evenly. I like it! Also, great work on the speed paints – that’s something I’ve always wanted to have a go at!

The photo above is Adolf Galland’s plane. As you can see there are some exceptionally tiny decals here. Decals are by Miscellaneous Miniatures.

June 1, 2018 at 3:25 pm #1196108@blipvertus I was looking at the decals from Miscellaneous Miniatures with a view to buying. I’m guessing you recommend them?
If I could pick your brain… are they as easy as GW/ Battlefront transfers to put onto the model? Or would you recommend a decal softener?
Also, do you happen to know the posting time to UK, as I believe they are in the US? Never bought anything from cross-Atlantic before and I’m a little sceptical on quality and ease of use. Not that I can find many UK based companies making 1/200 transfers!
