December 23, 2018 at 10:08 pm #1317109This marks 200 miniatures painted in 2018 and my first crack at historical painting, British 8th Army Black Watch.
December 23, 2018 at 10:29 pm #13171132 days in to 12 days off for christmas and here’s my progress. I’ve finished off my 4 SmogCon / BonesCon (Hey, BoW, SmogCon changed it’s name to BonesCon almost 2 years ago. Maybe you should update the link?). I made these bases from coffee stirers and the seal from a pot of cream. I mostly like how these guys came out, but unfortunately my glue betrayed me when I attached them to the bases after painting them. Seems its gotten a little thick and ugly and has left white clumps behind. I won’t be using this pot again anywhere it might be seen.
The 2016 Event freebie model. Unfortunately I got a miscast. Too late to do anything about it but he’s mostly a great model. Theres a rift down the middle of his sword, issues with his left shoulder and his arms don’t quite line up meaning his sword and feet don’t all want to touch the floor at the same time.
The 2018 freebie model
One of two 2017 exclusived. An unofficial alt sculpt for Warmachine’s Reinholdt, Gobber Specilator I like to call Brineholdt. You know, because he’s a pirate and spends his days out on the sea. Shut up, ok.
The other 2017 exclusive sculpt. An unofficial alt Scuplt of Warmachine’s Eriyess, the Pirate of Retribution. I used the Retribution colour scheme as an inspiration, but strayed from it quite heavily.
I’ve also made more progress on the 3 Deadzone Mercs I had on my table. They are all but finished. I’m waiting for the GW Textured paint to dry and then I can finish and varnish. Painting them reinforced my dislike of Mantic sculpts. One day I hope to paint one of their models and not feel like the sculpt is working against me.
I’ve also layed down the core colours on the test piece for my Space Wolves. Here’s my kitbashed Iron Priest. I think the red might be too bright. Tomorrow I will likely pinwash to shade, and perhaps I’ll find a way to darken the red?
I’ve started work on my Mythic Battles: Pantheon starter set. I’ve finishe dpainting all the Olympian Whites, base coated an owl, and gotten down the base colour for the Spartan Red. Tomorrow I’ll finish off the owl and the red. I’ll either then focus on the Iron priest, or these 3 gods.
I also layed down the base colour on Gloomhaven’s Sunkeeper. It wants 24 hours to dry before the next colour so tomorrow afternoon I’ll apply the next layer to this gold.
10 days left. How much more can I get done?
Side Note: My airbrush just came out of the ultrasonic cleaner. Apparently if you unplug something (or perhaps just cheap electronics from ebay?) with moisturiser on your hands you can get an electric shock. I recommend not doing this. It wasn’t fun.

December 24, 2018 at 8:13 pm #1317252I guess since it is that day and I’ve popped a Star Wars Christmas Special project
December 24, 2018 at 11:19 pm #1317272Day 3 of 12 off work and I’ve finished all the reds on my Mythic Battles Pantheon guys, and done the deep shade and final highlights on the whites. I’ve also done all by theglowing eyes on the owl. Tomorrow I start work on the flesh, probably focusing only on the 3 gods for now. I also applied the shade on the Sunkeeper for Gloomhaven, and airbrushed the base colour on a resin base. I applied a wash 5-6 hours later and it reacivated the base colour. I’ve not had that happen before. I don’t know what went wrong.
Today I mainly focussed on my Iron priest test piece. He’s now finished, except his base needs snow adding to it. As thats time consuming I’m calling him finished for now and I’ll snow him along with a unit at a later date. I think I might need a less bright red and yellow for future models.
December 25, 2018 at 2:26 am #1317277This Christmas I thought it would be a jolly good idea to give my brother-in-law a painted Underworlds: Nightvault set. He really likes boardgames, but doesn’t know the front end of a miniature from the backend.
So I had about 10 days to paint this up, but of course most of this got pushed into the last few days and now with a final 5 hour push the last bit is done for the morning. Normally I paint Marines so this was a bit different – only think I ever painted one Stormcast two years ago.
Even a quick job takes ages and they aren’t particularly difficult to do I guess. These quick build kits do seem to go soft on the detail in places.
I’m very happy with the bases and overall its okay. Just the light cloth areas on the Stormcasts are a little impressionistic, but that was the best I could do this time around.
Lesson is, its a nice idea for a present, but one that really needs a few more time, next time.
Have a Merry Christmas.
December 25, 2018 at 9:11 am #1317289@captainventanus He’ll love it. The pieces are far better finished than any boardgame piece.
Merry Christmas everyone!
December 25, 2018 at 11:35 am #1317301Finished this guy up last night. He is a dwarven tinkerer.
